Samsung Chromebook Now Top Selling Laptop on Amazon

Don't tell Microsoft, but the top selling notebook on Amazon isn't running Windows 8, or any flavor of Windows for that matter. It's not running Mac OS X, either. Interestingly enough, the biggest seller in the notebook category on the world's largest online retail site is a Chromebook. Samsung's Chromebook, to be exact.

It's Samsung's newest Chromebook model, the one with a 1.7GHz Exynos 5200 processor and 16GB of eMMC storage, and for the past 76 days it's been in the top 100 of Amazon's best selling laptops. Currently sitting in pole position, Samsung's 11.6-inch Chromebook is ahead of Apple's 13.3-inch MacBook Pro (newest version), Dell's Inspiron i15R-1633sLV, Apple's 13.3-inch MacBook Air (newest version), and Acer's 15.5-inch Aspire AS5250-0639. A spattering of Ultrabooks can be found further on down the list.

That's pretty good company, and it speaks to the value proposition of what's essentially a glorified Internet browser, though let's not pooh-pooh what a Chromebook is capable of. Some light Internet gaming and cloud-based productivity chores are possible, and it's an especially useful device if you're already heavily invested in Google's products and services.

Both Acer and Samsung recently introduced new low-priced Chromebooks built around Google's Chrome OS, the former taking the $199 price point and the latter offering a $249 model. Samsung's is a bit hard to find at the moment, as even the one on Amazon's website is through a third-party seller with a jacked up price tag.
