Bowser Swiftly Takes Over Nintendo's North American Kingdom
One of the best sources of information that gamers in North America have had from Nintendo for many years now has been Reggie Fils-Aime. Fils-Aime has served 15 years at Nintendo of America, 13 of those years have been as President and COO of the company. Nintendo has announced that Fils-Aime will be retiring and that his last day with Nintendo will be April 15.
Nintendo has also announced that Bowser will be taking over as President of Nintendo of America. That's not the bad guy Bowser from the Mario franchise; rather the new president will be Doug Bowser. He has been the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America since 2016. Bowser is credited with leading the marketing campaign for the Nintendo Switch, which is hailed as the fastest selling console of its generation.
Before his tenure with Nintendo, Bowser was an executive at Electronic Arts where he was VP of Global Business Planning. Bowser also formerly worked at Procter & Gamble in different leadership roles. Nintendo took the time to talk up the achievements of outgoing President and COO Fils-Aime.
Nintendo notes that he came on in 2003 as Executive VP of Sales and Marketing before taking the position as President and COO in 2006. Fils-Aime was with Nintendo for important products like the GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and Wii. Interestingly Nintendo says that Bowser will be the president of Nintendo North America, whereas Fils-Aime acted as both president and COO. There is no indication of who the COO title will go to at this time.
