Back in late February, Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon 700 series of smartphone processors, which will sit just below the 800 series when it comes to performance and "clout". A new report is shedding a bit more insight into the processor family, which will include both the Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 730.

First up is the Snapdragon 710, which will be built using Samsung's 10nm LPE process technology. The SoC will reportedly have two Kryo 3xx cores clocks at 2.2GHz and six low-power Kryo 3xx cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The Snapdragon 730, which is built on a Samsung 8nm LPP process, includes two Kryo 4xx cores clocked at 2.3GHz which are backed by six efficiency cores with a clock rate of 1.8GHz.

Both processors feature an Adreno 615 GPU clocked at 750MHz, which should be good for 60+ FPS at a resolution of QHD. However, it appears that only the Snapdragon 730 will include the Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine, which is featured in the flagship Snapdragon 845 processor. Compared to the Snapdragon 660, Qualcomm says that this new AI engine offers a 2x uplift in performance.

Qualcomm also claims that there will be up to a 30 percent uplift in power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 660, which is built on a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. We're assuming that the "up to" is in reference to the Snapdragon 730, which will be built on the newer 8nm process tech.

As previously stated, Qualcomm specifically developed the Snapdragon 700 series to satisfy "increasing demands of the China smartphone ecosystem" with respect to premium mid-range smartphones. So, it's likely that we'll see China-heavy OEMs like Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO adopting these chips in large numbers. However, that wouldn't preclude the processors from being used in other applications in critical markets like the United States.
