PepsiCo's Hello Goodness Snackbot Is A Cure-All For College Campus Munchies

To snack or not to snack? That used to be the question. Now college students do not need to choose between grabbing a treat and breaking up a study session. The PepsiCo Hello Goodness Snackbot, a self-driving robot, will now deliver snacks on select college campuses.

Students, staff and faculty at the University of Pacific in Stockton, California can now order snacks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the Snackbot app. The robot will deliver goods at 50 designated areas across the campus. The Snackbot can go more than 20 miles on a single charge and includes a camera, headlights, and all-wheel drive to help it navigate. It is important to note that the Snackbot app is currently only available for iOS.

Matt Camino, Director of e-Commerce at University of the Pacific, remarked, “This innovative technology from PepsiCo is enhancing campus life for our students, staff, and faculty alike, who have embraced this new way of snacking from PepsiCo.”

The food and drinks are part of PepsiCo’s Hello Goodness brand and include products from Smartfood Delight, Baked Lay's, SunChips, Pure Leaf Tea, bubly, LIFEWTR, and Starbucks Cold Brew. PepsiCo originally introduced Hello Goodness vending machines in 2016 to provide healthier options to consumers. The Snackbots are part of their goal of expanding the reach of their line to 50,000 touchpoints by the end of the year.

The snackbot is part of a collaboration between PepsiCo and Robby Technologies. Robby Technologies was founded in 2015 and is known for developing self-driving robots. They claim that their first generation robot traveled more than 3,000 miles to serve hundreds of California customers.

If adult beverages are more your style, never fear! The Bud Light Bot recently debuted at the United East Club level of the Broncos Mile High Stadium. The Bud Light Bot is a robotic arm that dispenses beer. The buyer simply puts their cup in a ring and pushes a button for the beer. Between the PepsiCo Hello Goodness Snackbot and the Bud Light Bot, it looks like we are one step closer to robots providing us all the food and drink that we need.
