Online Vendors Now Taking Orders for AMD 6-Core Phenom Chips
Provantage, for example, has started taking orders for AMD's Phenom II X6 1090T processor. This six-core chip races along at 3.2GHz and comes equipped with 9MB of L3 cache. You penny pinchers will be happy to know that it doesn't demand anywhere near the same pricing premium as Intel's 980X, and is instead listed at a much more pedestrian $318.50.
Just because you can order these parts doesn't mean you'll receive them right away. Provantage has the 1090T listed as a "Special Order" item and warns that "special order items can take as long as 3 to 4 weeks to be delivered." Do'h!
Howardcomputers.com, an online retailer we're not nearly as familiar with, also has the 1090T listed, though the asking price is about $354. There's no mention of whether this is an in-stock item or not, but we'd guess it isn't. Howard also lists the 1055T for $243, which comes clocked at 2.8GHz and contains 6MB of L3 cache.
No matter whether these parts are in stock yet or will be soon, the price points are very promising for AMD fans, or anyone looking to jump on the six-core bandwagon without breaking the bank.
