Not a week after revealing that the upcoming OnePlus 2 smartphone will be
powered by Qualcomm’s
Snapdragon 810 system-on-chip (SoC), OnePlus announced that the phone will also boast a Type C USB port. With the OnePlus 2 widely expected to be released in Q3 of this year, we’re hoping that the recent announcements signal that the OnePlus 2 is about ready to launch.
“The OnePlus 2 will be the first global flagship smartphone sporting this breakthrough technology,” a company spokesperson said in a blog post. “Its cable channels the same beautiful design of the OnePlus One’s that our users love, but this time with the added convenience and comfort of a reversible plug.”
What makes reversible plugs user-friendly is that you can connect them without matching them up to the port – they go in either way. Type C USB also delivers significantly faster speeds and more power, making it a better all-around port.
OnePlus reassures its OnePlus One owners that the new USB-C cable will support their older phones, provided they use an adapter. The company hopes that in the future, adapters and ports of different sizes will fall by the wayside as Type C becomes the standard of choice for more device manufacturers.
