NTT Com Hits 200Gbps On Its Transpacific Network
Proud of your broadband transfer rates, are you? Have a glance at this. NTT Communications Corporation has just announced that it has surpassed 200 Gigabits per second (Gbps) on its transpacific network, which is pegged as "the highest bandwidth currently available." For those unaware, NTT Com is the largest telecommunications company in Asia and one of the largest in the world, and it's responsible for providing enterprises, ISPs and other telecoms throughout Asia, North and South America and Europe with data transport capabilities.
Thankfully, this feat is more likely than ever to benefit those of us on this side of the pond. NTT America is planning to participate at International Telecoms Week (ITW), with Kazuhiro Gomi, CTO of NTT America and vice president of the NTT Communications Global IP Network noting that "the attendees of ITW are truly an international group that we think would be particularly interested in our growing speed and performance network milestones; at the same time we are seeing our network grow, we are also bringing our U.S.-based customers into the Asian markets with access to our prime data center space and bandwidth."
With Internet usage going nowhere but up, we're thrilled to see telecom companies upping the ante to ensure that we have the capacity to keep up. Just a decade ago, YouTube wasn't around to soak up gobs of bandwidth; today, we're looking at television programming delivered not over coax, but over Internet pipes.
