Nintendo Delays 3DS Launch Until Next Year For All Markets
Adding insult to injury, it was announced that the 3DS will cost ¥25,000, which is pushing $300. That's easily Nintendo's most expensive handheld ever, and it's a full $100 more than a Wii at-home console! Thankfully, no 3D glasses (an additional cost, usually) will be required for viewing the special display, but that's still a lot to ask of DS owners who may have just purchased their DS XL or DSi a few months ago. The new release date for Japan is February 26, 2011, while it will launch in Europe, Australia and the U.S. in March.
Nintendo's stock price fell around 10% initially on the news, but it's likely to pick back up once the shock subsides. Delays happen, but they always hurt the worse when they cause a company to miss a holiday sales cycle.
