MSI Rolls Out R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5/OC Graphics Card with Chilly Temps

MSI this week announced a handful of its own brand Radeon HD 7950 graphics, including the R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5/OC, which brings more to the gaming table than just a funktastic model number. Sharing the spotlight with AMD's 7950 GPU is a custom air cooler MSI claims is up to 10 percent chillier and produces 13.7dB less noise than the reference heatsink under full load.

To achieve that level of cooling performance, the Twin Frozr III heatsink battles thermals with a dual 8cm fan design and two 8mm "Superpipe" heatpipes that whisk heat up and away from the GPU. A special fan blade design takes care of the rest by generating 20 percent more airflow than traditional fan blades, or so MSI claims.

The card itself sports an engine clockspeed of 880MHz and 3GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 5200MHz on a 384-bit bus. Like many of MSI's products, this particular model uses "Military Class III" components, including all solid capacitors, a Hi-C capacitor to deliver more precise voltage, and a solid state choke with higher current for better overclocking ability.
