Missing From WWDC: What About the Mac Pro and iMac?
Those hoping for a Mac Pro and/or an iMac refresh were no doubt eagerly anticipating the big announcements at WWDC, and those same hopeful faces were certainly downcast after it was over, because despite the many new Apple products unveiled at the show (which we covered here, here, here, and yes, even here), there was no mention of either.
A big difference between a lot of iPhone users and Mac Pro users is that the latter typically need those beastly machines for work, so an update to the line means better productivity, not just a new gadget to play with.

Understandably, those users were a little put off, and it didn’t get any better when Apple quietly and very slightly tweaked the Mac Pro’s specs on Monday and called it “new”. The outcry--which included some harsh words from original Mac team member Andy Hertzfeld, now of Google--grew loud enough that Tim Cook saw fit to reply to an email from a disgruntled customer named Franz. Forbes received confirmation from Apple that it’s the real deal, and in it, Cook says that new Mac Pros are coming in 2013. Here’s the text of the email:

In summation, it looks like new Mac Pros are coming next year, presumably in time for the holidays. Of course, that leaves room for updates along the way, but that’s a mighty long stretch of time before truly revamped models are available.
There’s still no word on a new iMac.

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.
We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.
We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.
