Microsoft Exec Confirms Company is Working on Windows Blue
A couple of days ago we called Windows Blue the worst-kept secret in tech; Microsoft apparently understands that, as an executive’s blog post today revealed that Windows Blue is a Real Thing so casually and with so little context that he probably assumes everyone knows what he’s talking about.
Lap dog- and wine-loving Microsoft corporate vice president of corporate communications Frank X. Shaw (pictured) indeed said in a lengthy “state of the company”-type blog post that Windows Blue exists. “With a remarkable foundation of products in market and a clear view of how we will evolve the company,” he said, “Product leaders across Microsoft are working together on plans to advance our devices and services, a set of plans referred to internally as ‘Blue’.”
Until now, although plenty of information has leaked out about Windows Blue, essentially everything has been hearsay, although a leaked operating system build certainly seemed to confirm quite a bit.
Even though Shaw has verified that Blue exists, his post raises more questions than it answers. Note for example that he did not actually use the term “Windows Blue”. Further, he called it a “set of plans” which indicates that perhaps it’s not so much early work on Windows 9 or even updates to Windows 8 as it is the evolution of Microsoft’s products and services and a new way to run development cycles. Some updates to Windows 8 are apparently happening and may be the beginning of what Blue is all about, but Blue might go beyond the scope of the operating system.
Shaw also said that “Blue” will not be used for product names; it’s just a term Microsoft is using internally, so regardless, there won’t be any products with that moniker.
