LG Releases Biggest Ultra Definition TV in the World, Shipping to U.S. in September
"The 4K display market is still in its infancy but it was important for LG to claim a stake in this space," said Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, "LG’s UD 3D TV represents a whole new level of home viewing experience because it offers every advanced technology we currently have to offer."
LG's launch comes at a time when there isn't much in the way of 4K content out there, though if you're an early adopter with deep pockets, the company says its new television will upscale images from external sources, such as hard drives. Other features include 3D support, 2.2 speaker system (two 10W speakers and two 15W woofers), and an integrated Smart TV ecosystem that now includes about 1,400 app and access to premium content services.
In Korea, LG's 84-inch TV is selling for 25 million won (a little over US$22,000). No word yet on much it will cost when it starts shipping stateside next month.
