LaCie Claims "World's Fastest" Portable Storage With Thunderbolt 2-Equipped Little Big Disk

Seagate’s LaCie brand has boldly laid claim to the distinction of having the world’s fastest portable external storage solution with its Thunderbolt 2-equipped Little Big Disk. LaCie says that the unit can rock speeds of up to 1,375MBps. (Note that’s megabytes, not megabits.)

The Little Big Disk is outfitted with two 500GB PCIe Gen 2 SSDs in RAID 0, and LaCie says that the solution is ideal for 4K video editing, with the ability to transfer 300GB of 4K footage in under three minutes.

A big selling point for the Little Big Disk is the ability to daisy chain it with other units, thanks to the two Thunderbolt 2 ports. This makes the solution scalable in terms of capacity and can ostensibly deliver speeds of 2,600MBps.

The 1.4-pound storage device is also built for incredibly quiet cooling. Its aluminum chassis was built with heat-dissipation in mind, and the single thermoregulated fan is designed to make essentially zero noise on the occasions when it kicks on.

You can grab a Little Big Disk with Thunderbolt 2 for $1,299.
