HL3 Confirmed? JJ Abrams Confirms Portal Movie Unveil Imminent, Half-Life Film In Development
Way back in 2013, it was announced that both a Portal and Half-Life movie would be coming to theaters, although very little additional information was given. Still, the mere announcement set fans off in a frenzy. Could a Half-Life movie mean that HL3 would finally become a reality? No - it sure doesn't look like that. That announcement was made three-years-ago, and today, we're seemingly no closer to seeing the loose ends of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 tied up.
Fast-forward to today, and our hopes are renewed. None other than mega producer J.J. Abrams admitted on the red carpet this week that both movies are still in the cards, although it seems extremely likely that we'll first hear about the Portal movie rather than the Half-Life one. "We have a meeting coming up next week with Valve, we’re very active, I’m hoping that there will be a Portal announcement fairly soon", said Abrams.
When questioned about the movies, Abrams exuded positivity, saying that everyone involved has so far clicked, and he equates the process to an "incredible tree you're growing." He went on to call himself a fan of both games, so hopefully that means that the movie is in the right hands.
Sadly, this is absolutely all of the information we have to go on right now, but when J.J. Abrams "leaks" something, it seems like there's a good chance that it'll actually come true. Whether or not he was supposed to say anything is another story, but it seems clear that he's pretty passionate about the project.
A Portal movie could be huge, and even draw in people who've never heard of the series before. The series is chock-full of humor that could translate well to the big screen, so our trust is in your hands, Mr. Abrams!
