iPad Gen 1 on Sale for $100 Off, Now Starting at $399

In terms of the iPhone, Apple's latest practice has been to lower the price of the prior year's model to $99 while at the same time reducing its storage capacity. This being the first year that the iPad has a refresh, it's unclear if Apple will do some sort of similar practice, but for now, the iPad 1 is on sale for $100 across the board.

That means if you don't want a front- or rear-facing camera, don't care if your Apple tablet of choice is 33 percent thicker, 0.2 pounds heavier, and doesn't have a dual-core processor that's 2x faster overall and 9x faster graphically, you can save some decent cash.

The pricing of the iPad 2 is the same, and now the pricing of the iPad 1 is $399, $499, and $599 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB wi-fi only models. The 3G enabled models are $130 more. If you don't mind a refurbished model, you can get those for as low as $349.

Notably, Verizon's version doesn't appear to have the same sale pricing. That model is 3G-only, and is a wi-fi only iPad with a Verizon MiFi hotspot. Looking at Verizon's site, that model has not been gifted with the same price drop. It's true, however, that the MiFi can be used by up to 5 devices, not just the iPad, if you don't mind carrying the extra hardware.

Those who purchased an iPad for the original price and are still in the two week return window (or were, as of yesterday) can go back and get the $100 difference refunded, according to multiple reports.  You will need your receipt.

It's unclear if this sale will immediately end on March 11, or if Apple will have some sort of policy on perhaps the 16GB wi-fi only Gen 1 model, as with the iPhone. Time will tell.
