Game Developer Offers Lengthy Ouya Preview
Ouya has already done a video unboxing, but we haven’t seen the UI in action just yet. Here it is below:
The browser seems fast enough and played a low-quality YouTube video smoothly, although a higher-quality clip took a long time to load and choked on buffering issues.
The developer added his own “Deadly Dungeons” Android game, which he could play on the Ouya despite the fact that it was designed and optimized for a touch device running in portrait mode. He noted throughout the demo that there were certain mechanics in his game that the Ouya controller didn’t support, there was no Android menu button, and the touchpad on the game controller wasn’t as responsive as he’d prefer, but the arrow keys performed well and the video action was smooth as butter.
Of course, the consumer version of the Ouya interface will be quite different, but at the very least we can see the direction the team is heading with it. We also look forward to seeing some games running on this console after they’ve been rejiggered.
