Fusion Garage Cuts $200 From Price Of Grid10 Tablet

Fusion Garage has an uphill battle if they plan to take on Apple's iPad. In fact, the same could be said of any tablet maker hoper to make an impact in a market that's already dominated by the iOS king. But if the TouchPad survived only to prove one point, it's this: people love discounts, and they'll even overlook a product with more developer support in order to get a cheaper alternative. The $99 TouchPad sold out in record time, and Lenovo recently unveiled a $199 Android tablet. Fusion Garage, the company who produced the JooJoo right around the time the iPad came to market, seems to be taking a more intelligent approach this time.

While they launched their Grid10 tablet at $499 (Wi-Fi) and $599 (Wi-Fi + 3G), they've decided to slice that tremendously in the weeks leading to shipment. Why? Because it makes sense given the market demands. It's using a homegrown Grid10 operating system, and while it'd be easy to overlook when priced on par with the iPad, it's tough to ignore at $299 (Wi-Fi) and $399 (Wi-Fi + 3G).

Both models are up for pre-order now in the U.S. and U.K., with shipments to begin on October 1. Will you take a chance on a tablet startup given the price adjustment? We're willing to bet quite a few curious technology lovers will answer "yes."
