Impressive: Frostbite 3 Engine Features Detailed On Video
In an effort to offer realism and believability, the Frostbite 3 engine handles features such as trees swaying in the breeze; the game engine produces “weather”, and the rules of the weather affect the movement of the trees, the ocean, and even the clouds. When you’re on the water, the waves are part of the gameplay now, and you have to account for their rise and fall.
Furthering the concept of destruction that dynamically changes a map, in Battlefield 4, “levolution”--wherein a multiplayer map can be dramatically changed by, for example, a building collapsing--is a key feature.
There’s also been a lot of work to develop more emotionally believable characters, and to that end, they included things like eye details (parallax animation in the iris and pupils) and sub surface scattered models.
We enjoyed the lengthy Battlefield 4 demo video we saw back in March, but it’s clear that there’s more to the Frostbite 3 engine than we’d seen.
