#Fight! Facebook To Implement Hashtag Symbol To Group Conversations

#thatsagoodidea. No, that's not a legitimate sentence, but you get the point, right? Twitter has taken the hashtag to another level, making it a part of everyday culture at this point. And since it's so easy to recognize, it shouldn't come as a surprise to hear that one of Twitter's primary rivals is consider adding it as well. Facebook is reportedly thinking about adding the hashtag to its official lexicon. It's unclear at this point how far along the process is, but it has become quite clear that with breaking worldwide events (the Pope ordeal, for example), Twitter is leading the way on trends. And Facebook wants a part of it.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Facebook is "testing whether to follow Twitter's lead and allow users to click on a hashtag to pull up all posts about similar topics or events so it can quickly index conversations around trending topics and build those conversations up, giving users more reason to stay logged in and see more ads." Of course, Instagram already uses hashtags, so perhaps they'll just claim that they're borrowing it from a property they already own. #guesswellsee
