Ferrari's Epically Beautiful 488 Pista Goes McLaren 720S Huntin' With 710 HP Twin-Turbo V8
At the heart of the new 488 Pista is a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumping out 710 horsepower and a healthy 568 lb-ft of torque (Ferrari's most powerful V8 ever) sending power to the rear wheels with a 7-speed dual-clutch. For comparison, the 488 GTB "only" produces 660 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. For those wondering, the 488 Pista’s figures are a direct match for the McLaren 720S.
It appears that the McLaren 720S' power output wasn't the only thing that Ferrari targeted. The 488 Pista has a dry weight of 2,821 pounds, which is roughly a 200-pound savings over the 488 GTB (thanks in part to carbon fiber body panels). The 720S weighs in at 2,800 pounds.
The increased power output and weight loss means that the 488 Pista shaves 0.2 seconds off the 0-60 sprint (now standing at 2.8 seconds), while the vehicle can now top out at 211 mph (up from 205 mph). The differences in performance might not seem like much, but for supercars/hypercars, it’s often a numbers game to see who has the biggest...
Other notes of interest include a 20 percent improvement in downforce compared to the 488 GTB thanks to modifications made to the vehicle's aero. There are also plenty of performance aids including Side-Slip Angle Control 6.0, which consists of E-Diff3, F1-Trac, magnetorheological suspension, and the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (which adjusts brake pressure at the caliper).
There is no word yet on pricing for this magnificent beast, but if you have to ask...
