2019 Doodle For Google Contest Invites Kids To Share Their Hopes And Dreams For The Future

Google is holding a special contest for kids, grades K - 12, that invites children to draw what they hope to see in the future, in the form of a doodle. The contest is called the 2019 Doodle for Google and the doodles can be about anything that the kids can dream of. The contest has a tagline that states "If you can dream it, you can draw it."

The contest is open for both online and mailed in entries from now until March 18, 2019 at 8:00 pm PST. Google will accept completed entries in either .png or .jpg formats. While kids can use any materials that they want to create their doodle, all have to be entered using the official form. Participants are required to write an artist statement to tell Google more about what the drawing is and how it represents something that inspires them.

Artists can draw their doodle directly on the entry form, but the entry has to be in the form of a high res digital photo or scan of the doodle. All doodles are to be judged by the same criteria including artistic merit based on artistic skill. Creativity judging is based on a representation of the content theme with the use of the letters in the Google logo, and the unique approach to the doodle. The final criteria is theme communication, including how well the contest theme is expressed in the artwork and written statement.

Doodles are grouped and judged by five grade groups including grades K-3, grades 4-5, grades 6-7, grades 8-9, and grades 10-12. Finalists are judged on a state-by-state basis with state and territory winners and ten or more winners from each grade for 53 in total. Each of those will be displayed in an online gallery on the Doodle for Google website. There will be a single national finalist in each group for five total. The final five national finalists will be voted on by the public in the U.S. for five days. The National Winner will be announced in the first week of June and will be featured on Google.com.
