Dell Unveils Drool-Worthy UltraSharp 32 4K Ultra HD Display at SIGGRAPH
At long last, monitor makers are finally starting to innovate again, meaning the top-end display for PCs is no longer a 30-inch IPS panel. We're starting to see 4K panels trickle into the consumer market, including the UltraSharp 32 from Dell. Shown off at SIGGRAPH, the UltraSharp 32 is a 32-inch 4K Ultra HD monitor (3,840 x 2,160) with four times the resolution of a Full HD 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) panel.
At precisely 32 inches, it qualifies as the largest and highest resolution UltraSharp monitor to date. To make that happen, Dell opted for an IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) screen built by Sharp. One of the several advantages of IGZO is that it allows more pixels to be packed into the same area compared to amorphous silicon for the active layer of an LCD display.
Other features include both full size and mini DisplayPort connectors (comes with the cable, too), HDMI port, built-in USB hub, and an SD card reader, all of which are on the left side of the panel.
Users will have total color control via the included Dell UltraSharp Color Calibration Solution software, including hardware LUT (Look-Up Table) access. As such, this should be on the radar of graphics professionals and diehard photography buffs.
The UltraSharp 32 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013. No word on price.
