Connectivity Woes Damper Siri's Debut on the iPhone 4S

Having trouble with your "virtual personal assistant," as Apple likes to refer to its Siri voice recognition software? You're not alone. Here we are three days after the iPhone 4S launch and users are still taking to Twitter and Apple's support forum to voice their frustration that Siri is experiencing network connectivity quirks.

It's been an intermittent problem on our end as well, and it's been really frustrating trying to play with an awesome toy that doesn't always want to play back. And let there be no mistake, Siri lives up to its billing as an awesome piece of technology, albeit only when it's working, of course.

The problem doesn't seem to be carrier dependent and users report connectivity issues regardless of whether they're on Wi-Fi or 3G. That would suggest the problem is on Apple's end, possibly because the company's servers are simply overloaded from millions of new iPhone owners trying to figure out the meaning of life with Siri's help.

If you're having trouble, you can try the following steps:
  1. Go to Settings > General > Siri and turn Siri off. Wait about 5 seconds before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. After you do this, your iPhone 4S will reboot.
  3. Go to Settings > General > Siri and turn Siri back on. Wait another 5 seconds and then give it a whirl.

Some users report success following the above steps, others haven't been as lucky. In the end, it's probably going to be hit or miss until Apple sorts out whatever issue is causing Siri to wig out.
