You can blame James Cameron's
Avatar for all the 3D ballyhooing that's taking place, an awesome flick admittedly well served by the extra dimension, which is more than we can say for the spate of 3D movies that have come out since then. Given that
Avatar kicked off the whole 3D revolution, it's a little ironic that the flick is taking its sweet time to manifest on 3D
Blu-ray, but the wait is finally over. Well, kind of.
If you're hoping to score the 3D Blu-ray version of
Avatar, you'll have to cozy up to
Panasonic and purchase a Panasonic Viera 3D TV. If you do, you can choose to receive one of two bundles:
- Full HD 3D Blu-ray Player plus Panasonic 3D Ultimate Pack
- $295.95 towards a Blu-ray 3D Home Theater System plus Panasonic 3D Ultimate Pack
The 3D Ultimate Pack includes
Avatar in 3D Blu-ray and two paris of active shutter 3D glasses, each with a rechargeable battery (using a USB terminal) and On/Off switch. If you already purchased a qualifying TV set between March 10, 2010 and November 30, 2010, Panasonic will send you a complimentary copy of Avatar in 3D once you fill out
this form (PDF) and jump through the required hoops.
If you just want the 3D Ultimate Pack, Panasonic will gladly
sell you one, for $360 (normally retails for $400).
