If you ever pay full price for App Store/iTunes credit, you are doing it wrong. The time to pounce is when gift cards and credit purchases go on sale, as typically occurs around various holidays and random times of the year. Such is the case right now—in an email to
App Store and
iTunes users,
Apple is alerting users that they can get a 10 percent bonus when loading up their Apple ID accounts.
This is a little different than a typical gift card purchase. What you are doing is adding funds to your Apple ID account from a credit or debit card, which you can then use to make purchases in the App Store, on iTunes, and via iCloud.
"Now you can load money to your account more conveniently than ever right from the App Store. Then use your balance to enjoy games, apps, books, movies, Apple Music, or iCloud storage. Try it today and get an extra 10 percent added to your account," Apple explains.
The offer is good on credit additions from as little as $1 all the way up to $200. So if you add the full amount, you'll get a $20 bonus. You only get one shot at this, though, so choose your amount wisely. For example, if you purchase $25 and receive a $2.50 bonus, you can't go back later and receive another bonus.
I didn't receive an email like some users did, but I do see the option to receive a bonus in Settings. If you want to try this yourself, do the following:
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on your account name
- Tap on iTunes & App Store
- Tap on your Apple ID and select View Apple ID
- Tap on Add Funds to Apple ID
After selecting that last option, you should see the bonus offer, as show in the screen grab above. As stated in the offer, this is valid through March 14, which is this Thursday.
