Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" Coming Soon To Nexus One?
That intrigue has been intensified with the huge increase in tablet demand this year; Google has been quoted as saying that Android 2.2 isn't cut out for tablets, but now that tablets are impossible to ignore, there's a chance that Android 2.3 will be able to scale better, and it may even offer dedicated support for tablet apps (higher resolution, etc.).
No exact details of Android 2.3 have been revealed yet, but one thing seems certain. It will be here soon. Alvaro Fuentes Vasquez, who is a member of the leadership team at the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), recently tweeted the message shown here. When translated, it reads: "Prepare your Nexus One (Developer version) for Android OTA update 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the next few days."
That couldn't really be any clearer. It sounds like Android 2.3 will be out on some phones prior to Christmas, and possibly even tablets. We'll be interested to see what phone/carrier gets it first, and you can bet we'll hear lots of complaints from end-users who wish their operator would go ahead and release it. Such is the life of an Android owner who is constantly waiting for the next build!
