"Our unique fabric technology is truly one of the crown jewels of the cloud," said Lisa Su, senior vice president and general manager, Global Business Units, AMD. SeaMicro instantly becomes AMD's Data Center Server Solutions business, which AMD says will accelerate its strategy to deliver disruptive server technology and provide is cloud customers with differentiated AMD-based solutions. Perhaps equally important is the fact that AMD managed to snag SeaMicro up before Intel, which has ties with the server company via its Atom platform. However, Intel's Diane Bryant also said earlier this month that company suits weren't particularly impressed with SeaMicro's technology and that a buyout was never in Intel's cards to begin with.
