AMD Announces Re-Org Into Two Main Business Units: Computing And Graphics, Enterprise And Embedded
As part of the change, Dr. Lisa Su has been named Chief Operating Officer, and the company will create two business groups focused on bolstering "traditional businesses." Furthermore, Chief Sales Officer John Byrne will be tapped to lead the New Computing and Graphics Business Group.
As a part of the re-alignment, AMD also announced it will consolidate its business units into two expanded business groups. First up is the Computing and Graphics Business Group, which will combine AMD's client, consumer graphics and professional graphics businesses, as well as their related product engineering and sales functions. AMD Chief Sales Officer John Byrne (43) has been appointed senior vice president and general manager responsible for leading the Computing and Graphics Business Group, reporting to Dr. Su.
Next is the Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom Business Group, which will will combine AMD's server, embedded, dense server and semi-custom businesses, as well as their related product engineering and sales functions. Dr. Su will be the acting lead.
Change has become a constant at AMD in the fight to stay tight with Intel on the marketshare front, but these moves do indeed seem to make sense and align with the realities of today's silicon market.
