Nintendo is getting ready to shake up the gaming console space with its Switch, a hybrid system that equal parts about playing games in the living room as it is about getting your gaming fix on the go. A key aspect of being able to tackle stationary and mobile gaming is the control scheme. We'll need some hands on time to truly get a feel for how things work, though in the meantime Nintendo has released a video that focuses on its detachable Joy-Con controllers. There are left and right Joy-Con controllers that detach from the Switch when playing games in front of a big screen TV and attach to... Read more...
This might come as a surprise to, well, absolutely no one, Nintendo appears to be dealing with a shortage of its new hybrid Switch console almost a full month before it even releases to retail. Anticipated supply is so far behind demand that reports are surfacing of major retailers cancelling pre-orders. Among them are Target and GameStop, though the latter has since issued a statement denying that's the case. "GameStop has not, and is not, cancelling any Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to allocation issues. We are working very closely to confirm and validate any and all pre-orders of this innovative... NVIDIA announced an updated SHIELD TV bundle back at the Consumer Electronics Show, which offers a host of new features thanks to some fresh hardware and an Android Nougat based OS upgrade. The updated SHIELD TV, however, isn’t totally new. Internally, the device was still packing NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 SoC like the original, which, even after a couple of years on the market, is still an exceptionally strong performer. The new SHIELD TV also has the same memory and base storage configurations, and the SHIELD Remote is similar too. However, NVIDIA significantly shrunk down the chassis by eliminating... Read more...

The creator of Flappy Birds is back with his latest game, Ninja Spinki Challenges!!, which features kawaii ninjas, bouncing cats, and killer fruits. Ninja Spinki Challenges!! is slightly less simplistic than its predecessor, but just as charmingly infuriating. Flappy Birds was released on May 24th, 2013 by Dong Nguyen. Nguyen found popular games like Angry Birds to be too complicated. So, he developed Flappy Birds in three days and used a character that he had designed for a platform that had been cancelled. By January 2014, Flappy Birds was at the top of the charts and Nguyen was making roughly... Read more...

Retro gaming made a major resurgence this past holiday season, with the release of Nintendo’s ultra-hyped NES Classic, a scaled down clone of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Out of the box, the NES Classic has thirty preloaded game titles, though some recent hacks exposed a method for uploading more if you're willing to mess with it. That's all well and good, but if you weren’t able to get your hands on one this past holiday season -- like the majority of people -- getting your retro-gaming fix isn't happening any time soon, unless you fork out an unreasonable sum, paying hundreds to... A lot of Nintendo fans were disappointed and even downright angry when they were unable to secure an NES Classic Edition console in time for Christmas. Supply fell way short of demand, while many of those who did manage to get their hands on one of the retro consoles took to selling them on eBay and Craigslist at around a 400 percent markup. Will a similar situation play out with the Nintendo Switch? There are reasons to believe it will, though Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is confident it won't. The Nintendo boss told Wired in an interview that Nintendo anticipated the NES Classic... Read more...
When Windows 10 Build 14997 leaked in December, it foreshadowed a lot of updates and functionality that would later be introduced to official testers with Builds 15002 and 15007. One of the features that drew the interest of the enthusiast community was the discovery of the performance enhancing Game Mode. Microsoft for the first time this week confirmed Game Mode, and announced that it will soon be available for Windows Insiders to try out. “Windows Insiders will start seeing some of the visual elements for Game Mode this week, with the feature being fully operational in builds shortly thereafter,”... Everyone needs a little more gaming in their life. CES 2017 has brought out some truly absurd mobile fragging monsters, like the Acer Predator 21 X and Razer Project Valerie gaming notebooks. ‘Tis the season to stomp on your enemies with the help of new gaming hardware, so we jumped at the chance to fire up a couple of Lenovo’s top gaming machines, a burly 17-inch gaming laptop and a gaming desktop PC designed in conjunction with Razer. Just a small side note: we're actually giving away these machines in the days ahead to a couple of lucky individuals participating in our Lenovo HOT Holiday Giveaway. We thought it might be interesting to preview these to beasts before we gave them away, though.  Regardless, the maker of the ThinkPad line has been fighting its way into the... Read more...
Time after time we hear reports from market research firms highlighting declining sales in desktop PC shipments. Taken at face value, it is a wonder that boutique gaming system builders ever bother with high end system configurations, but those quarterly figures don't tell the whole story. For one, the market is still being flooded with hundreds of millions of PCs every year. And secondly, PC gamers have been bucking the overall trend for several years now. Jon Peddie Research noted this in one of its most recent GPU shipments report. "If anyone doubted that the PC was the platform of choice for... Read more...
Suit-up mech pilots! Titanfall 2 has landed! Developer Respawn has returned with a sequel to its frenectic-paced FPS from 2014, offering yet even more stylistic wall-running, double-jumping and a bit of mech-on-mech action peppered throughout. Titanfall 2 is not your average first-person shooter, to say the least. The original TitanFall was fun but quaint affair that felt under supported, with DLC distribution that essentially fragmented the community. Acknowledging this shortcoming  for the sequel, EA and Respawn are promising that all additional content made available post-purchase, (maps,... Read more...
