IFA Berlin is underway and that means there will be plenty of hot news for gamers this week. On the hardware side of things, Acer took the wraps off a ton of new gaming hardware, including gaming desktops, notebooks, monitors, and a tablet. All of the new gaming devices are part of Acer’s Predator line, which features black and red coloring.Acer Predator 8One of the most interesting additions to the Predator line is the Predator 8, an 8-inch, Android-based tablet designed expressly for gaming. The tablet’s display is full HD thanks to a 1920 x 1200 resolution. The Predator 8 has an Intel Atom x7... Read more...
While it may seem intimidating to first time system builders, It's really not all that difficult to roll your own PC -- you just have to be able to use a screwdriver without poking your eye out or otherwise injuring yourself. If for some reason you don't have that skill, Acer's new Revo Build might be more up your alley. The Revo Build is a stackable PC that starts off as a NUC-sized 1 liter "block" measuring 4.9 inches by 4.9 inches by 2.2 inches. That's the base of the system, which contains an Intel Pentium or Celeron processor with integrated graphics, up to 8GB of DDR4 memory, and 32GB of... Read more...
Acer founder Stan Shih said during a press conference on Thursday that he's open to the idea of selling the company he created several decades ago. He didn't volunteer the information on his own, but was responding to a question about his willingness to engage in takeover talks, should they arise. His response was "Welcome," adding that any buyer would get an "empty shell" after paying a premium price for the company, according to Reuters. It's a candid reply, though Shih wasn't being ornery. This is a man who took a startup and grew it into a billion-dollar company, retired in 2004, then returned... Read more...
Attendees at Gamescon in Cologne, Germany were treated to a close-up look at the new Acer Predator G6 today. The gaming desktop brings new hardware to Acer’s Predator G series, including an Intel Core i7-6700K processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 graphics card. Acer is billing the updated Predator G6-710 as an “unstoppable fighting machine” that is tough inside and out. “We are thrilled to unveil our new Predator gaming machine for hardcore gamers that’s as enthralling on the exterior with its belligerent armour design as it is on the inside,” said Andrew Hou, general manager of Acer’s Stationary... When Acer and Microsoft pulled back the curtain on the Windows 10-powered Acer Aspire One Cloudbook, they were mercilessly stingy with the details. Fortunately that changes today, as Acer just shared every last specification for their affordable Google Chromebook competitor. It's not going to move your needle if you're used to enthusiast-level notebooks, but for the casual consumer or budget-strapped student, the Aspire One Cloudbook leaves a compelling value proposition on the table.  There will be 2 baseline models launching later this month, and Microsoft Stores appear to the... We've got a fairly well defined set of expectations with today's current crop of ultrabooks. What you trade away in performance, you usually gain in convenience with these ultra-light, ultra-portable, and easy to carry laptops. We wouldn't make an ultrabook our primary gaming system or video-encoding cruncher, for example, but we would definitely carry one around with us for everyday computing tasks like Web browsing, managing spreadsheets, some Netflix, and maybe a bit of light gaming (sorry, Witcher 3 fans). We were pleasantly surprised to see Acer's Aspire S7-393 perform so well on most... Read more...
It’s back-to-school season, which has traditionally been a good time to pick up a laptop or tablet at a decent price. Asus just released a low-cost Chromebook that is worth a look, but Windows users are getting some love, too. The Acer One 10 is a 10.1-inch Windows tablet (with a keyboard) that rolls in at just under $200. The One 10’s hardware is understandably light, given the tablet’s price tag, but the tablet comes across as a fairly competent 10-incher, at least on paper. It combines an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of flash storage. There’s also a microSD... Read more...
It seems as though just about every consumer electronics company wants a piece of the red hot wearables market now. And we’re not just talking about smartwatches like the Apple Watch and Motorola Moto 360, but from Microsoft Band and Fitbit fitness trackers. Acer is the latest that wants in on the action and has introduced its first wearable for the U.S. market: the Liquid Leap+. The Liquid Leap+ features a 0.94-inch touch screen OLED display (128x32), Cortex M0 processor, Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity, and an IPX7 waterproof rating. The integrated lithium-polymer battery gives the wearable a runtime... Read more...
Microsoft is done being undercut by Google and its low-priced, cloud-driven Chromebooks. During its Worldwide Partner Conference, Redmond revealed its own inexpensive alternative, the Acer Aspire One Cloudbook. The $169 Windows 10 notebook will hit stores in August.  Acer's Aspire One Cloudbook will sport an 11.6-inch screen and ship with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10, and another model will be available with a 14-inch display. We know little else about the Cloudbook, but at $169 the price alone is an aggressive statement. Chromebooks are far from capturing a majority slice of the market,... Read more...

Acer is on a bit of a roll in the gaming monitor space. First they challenged the excellent ASUS ROG Swift with their obtusely-named but glorious XB270HU, which delivered the holy grail: 1440p, G-Sync support, 144Hz refresh rate, and an IPS panel. Now they're raising the bar on the FreeSync side of the fence with the XR341CK, a 34" curved display that simultaneously elicits drool and then shrieks of horror from our wallets.  Let's get the price tag out of the way first: Acer's XR341CK will run you $1099, but it does bring an ample amount of features to the table. First and foremost is... Read more...

Acer already has a major presence in the United States, but up until now, it hasn't tried competing in the smartphone market on U.S. soil. That's about the change. As we head into the weekend, Acer announced that it's expanding its smartphone business stateside with the launch of its Liquid M220 handset in Microsoft Stores. The Liquid M220 is Acer's first Liquid-branded handset to run on the Windows Phone 8.1 platform. It will also be eligible for a free upgrade to Windows Phone 10 when it comes out, presumably by the end of summer. In the meantime, Liquid M220 owners can enjoy Windows Phone 8.1... Read more...

The new XR341CKA bring with it 34-inches of curved screen gaming-oriented goodness with a zero-frame design and 21:9 aspect ratio. The IPS panel has a resolution of 3,440x1440 and a variable refresh rate courtesy of NVIDIA G-SYNC.
