OCZ ARC 100 240GB Solid State Drive Review

4 thumbs up

Next we ran SiSoft SANDRA 2014, the the System ANalyzer, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant. Here, we used the Physical Disk test suite and provide the results from our comparison SSDs. The benchmarks were run on unformatted drives and read and write performance metrics are detailed below.

Synthetic HDD Benchmarking

The OCZ ARC 100 240GB drive offered competitive read performance here, but writes trailed all of the other drives, save for the Crucial MX100.

ATTO Disk Benchmark
More Information Here: http://bit.ly/btuV6w

ATTO is another "quick and dirty" type of disk benchmark that measures transfer speeds across a specific volume length. It measures raw transfer rates for both reads and writes and graphs them out in an easily interpreted chart. We chose .5kb through 8192kb transfer sizes and a queue depth of 6 over a total max volume length of 256MB. ATTO's workloads are sequential in nature and measure raw bandwidth, rather than I/O response time, access latency, etc.

We saw some weirdness in the ATTO Disk Benchmark with the OCZ ARC 100 240GB drive. Overall, performance was competitive, but with 64K and 2MB transfers, performance dipped somewhat in the read test. The write test showed a similar anomaly, but only with 64K transfers.

I love SSD's. I can't even use a HDD in my system anymore, as it feels like a bottleneck. Pretty awesome SSD aimed at the budgeted consumer. Great review!

I want to add another - they are unreal!

We should start a fan club. xD I have an Intel 240gb SSD and a samsung 256gb SSD. I just can't stand using HDD's. Of course it is less space for more money, but you'll change your mind when you see the speed. :P

I've wanted an SSD for a long time. I'm definitely going to have to put one in my new system, maybe even this one.

Sounds great! There are so many choices, and it will speed up your system significantly. Especially if you save your OS on your SSD. ;)

I think this might be the drive that finally gets me to switch. At ~ $120 it's large enough, and cheap enough.

Go for it man. such a big difference in performance!
