Hottest Products of CES 2011

This year's Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas Nevada, offered some of the most exciting product announcements we've seen in any previous CES show thus far.  The past three years' CES shows have been rather snoozy, to be honest, with the economy taking its toll on product design investment and innovation.  However, this year's CES showed great promise of not only emerging technologies and product innovations but with the sheer number of announcements and the notable increase in attendance (as well as city traffic, which was a nightmare), it was all a very encouraging sign of the health of our nation's economy and that we're actually finally on the up-tick.

Regardless, we took time here to wrap-up our show favorites from the major players, in this Hottest Products of CES 2011 showcase.  These were the stand-outs in our opinion, in a sea of technology deep and wide enough to make any self-respecting geek grin from ear to ear.

That ATRIX phone looks verrrrry tempting to this person who claims to dislike all mobile phones.

Hope you're right about the prices.

I really liked the Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500 speaker system but if it's over 200 bucks it will have to go on the forever wish-list.

My smartphone is good for a while yet and my PCs are current.

The thing that's at the top of my buy list is the TRENDnet 450mb/s concurrent duel band wireless router.

The Ultimate N 6300 in my laptops and my excellent Internet service can use it.

In this city and my apartment building complex there's a lot of interferrence on the 2.4ghz band.

The 5ghz band on this router operating concurrently with other tasks on 2.4ghz should be great.

BTW How's the progress with removing the unnecessary and unwanted automatic page refreshing on the site?

I want to go next year if I can. Can we get an HH section?

Hog, are you still seeing the refresh issue? Should be inconsequential now.

It's not doing it for to me anymore,....

I am not seeing it anymore, but I grabbed Textarea cache anyway so even if I do see it on any page on any forum on the internet it does not matter anymore. I can just open Textarea cache and every letter down to the last character I typed is in the cache. I think it was 3vi1 that told me to get it the last time I said anything about any auto refresh loss. It has saved me a couple times the last time we had the issue here as well as on several other post's elsewhere even on Facebook and the like., GREAT lil program/addon!

I'm a big fan of the pictures in the end. Having never been to CES (someday), i like to see the people, other than reporters/ journalists, involved and how they get to make the event possible. For example, the "alleged" 6990 card from EVGA. I'm amazed that someone from RnD most likely conjured up this card, tested it for some time, it went from hand to hand, and finally some manager decided, HEY... lets take this and put it on our CES booth to see what people think. Best aprt, we wont tell them what it is, but let them guess. I find that fascinating. Good the see the pics of the OCZ crew as well.

That G1-Killer mobo is looking really nice.  Think I might have to snatch one of those up when I do an upgrade.  Damn it, I just bought a $1k cpu only a few months ago.

I must say I was most impressed with the Benchmarks of Dave and Marco et al eating dinner with people, LOL! No really quite a few nice devices at CES this year. I would have loved to see the Motorola tab as well as your impressions of it. I also love the Big Bang Marshal, as well as those Gigabyte beauties with the Nica.. audio processors, and killer 2100's as well as amplifiers on board that is impressive. While almost everything I saw from CES was awesome in general as well (Of course I followed it as much as possible from the day prior to full coverage starting). I will say one thing, I personally bet that in 5 years we will be in an entirely new place as far as technology goes, as is indicated by many things here especially mobile hardware.

There is just to much to choose from left me slobbering, with envy!  Great rundown!

CES and PAX are both very cool events too bad I never have the vacation time or the need for work to go.

I for one would love to go even if just for the novelty of saying I had been once. Not to mention all the great stuff I would be able to see and interact with.

0
+ -

don't forget the free stuff you can get :). I would love to go. most likely will when i can drive my self there and i can take off from school...

0

Thats very true as well as another reason I would love to go at least once. Who knows maybe next year if this business ends up making money. I could probably write it off to because the business is involved with PC hardware primarily.

cant wait to get my hands on the PCIe SSD's... they got to be ungodly fast if going through a PCIe port :) 3 second operating system boot ime im talking about :D

0
+ -

Very true with the available bandwidth on a PCIe port the operating speed has to be crazy fast. Then with an SSD with would be able to use all of its speed at least seemingly.

0
+ -

Some PC platforms are saddled with limited PCI-E bandwidth. (think P55) So a SATA SSD is a better fit for some systems.

0
+ -

That seem true of course realneil for now. It would seem that the SATA3/6 drives would willingly remedy performance issues, but there not really available yet, although I am positive that very shortly will be remedied.

You can already Crossfire or SLI across two, three, or even four PCI-E slots with video cards using the right platform.

Now,........just imagine the performance you would see if you could RAID your PCI-E drives the same way? 3 or 4 together would be smokin' fast, Eh? What kind of performance would we see then?

It's a very compelling idea,.......

I am pretty sure you can RAID 2 PCI-E SSD's, but if they were just SATA3 you can do considerably more. Personally in raid flavors RAID 5 is my favorite. You get the performance and the reliability. I know RAID 10 etc are cool, but with raid 5 you can still relatively control the cost to a point.
