We’ve already had a taste of what ASUS and Gigabyte have to offer in the way of Z87 motherboards, and now it’s time to give MSI’s lineup a spin. MSI’s offering of Z87 motherboards has essentially three tiers: the “POWER” series (which includes four XPOWER and MPOWER boards), a trio of gaming boards, and five mainstream boards. The company sent us a motherboard from each area to put through their paces. The Z87 chipset goes hand-in-hand with Intel’s 4th-generation Haswell processors, and we outfitted the three MSI boards--the tiny Z87I, the Z87-G45 Gamer,... Read more...

ASUS, like the other major motherboard manufacturers, has an extensive lineup of boards that now support Intel's 4th-generation Haswell processors and come packing the Z87 chipset. There are motherboards in ASUS' quiver that run the gamut from gaming boards to workstation boards to consumer-focused boards and beyond, but the company seems proudest of its Republic Of Gamers (ROG) line. There are multiple Z87-based ROG boards in the series, and we took a look at three of them that represent a nice variety of form factors and features--the Maximus VI Impact, Maximus VI Gene, and the Maximus VI Formula--and... The HTC One is a nice-looking phone (our review here), and it’s shown up in black, red, blue, and sexy silver, but now HTC’s flagship phone may be donning a more audacious gown. According to leaked photos from Sina Weibo (it’s behind a login screen), there may be a gold-colored HTC One in the works, as well. Yes, gold, just like the gold-colored iPhone 5S that Conan O’Brien openly mocked (Gold is best! Best! Best! Best!), which means that if the leaked photos are accurate, at least two flagship smartphones will be available in the color of kings. Credit: Sina Weibo via PhoneDog... Read more...

Gigabyte had us out to their L.A. offices to show off their latest line of motherboards packing the Intel Z87 chipset, and as usual, the company has a whole lot of SKUs coming down the pike. Clearly, the most work went into Gigabyte’s OC and gaming lines, but there are plenty of welcome surprises and new features in this launch. Extreme OC Series Of all the new motherboards it has brewing, Gigabyte seems to be particularly excited about the Extreme OC series, and it’s not hard to see why. The orange-and-black color scheme takes a backseat to everything the company packed onto the PCB... Read more...
Although there are still details such as specifications and pricing being kept under wraps, ASUS has announced its line of Intel Z87-based motherboards--many of which are sporting the new gold-and-black color scheme. There are a lot of them. The main group of consumer-level boards includes the Z87 Deluxe, Z87 A, Z87 Pro, Z87 Plus, and even a mini ITX board called the Z87I-Deluxe, and there’s a workstation and professional design and content creation mainboard called the Z87 WS. There’s gold in them thar motherboards, or so the saying (sort of) goes. ASUS announced that its upcoming line of Intel Z87-based motherboards will sport a decidedly gold color scheme, from the heatsinks to the DIMM slots. The boards will also feature black PCBs and silver accents. For the record, we’re talking nearly the whole line, including ASUS’ TUF, and WS motherboards, so if you prefer the older blue scheme over the new gold one, you're out of luck unless you roll with an ROG board. ASUS Z87 WS ASUS says that the new “gold imbued” heatsinks actually do offer... Read more...
Intel’s upcoming fourth-generation Core-i7 CPUs (codenamed Haswell) promise to be game-changers, and we’ve reported on some of the specifications of its accompanying Z87 chipset, as well. Apparently, VR-Zone has gotten its hands on leaked details of the impending processor line, including the targeted launch date of April 2013. The naming scheme should pick up where the third-generation Ivy Bridge chips did, using “3000” and “4000” numbering for third- and fourth-generation CPUs, respectively, which will be helpful in identifying the fourteen individual SKUs...
