Toshiba's Singapore division recently launched a new Portégé notebook that features a Honeycomb Structure and Fresh Air Cooling Technology. Thanks to the new Honeycomb Structure beneath the palm rests and base of the laptop, the Portégé R700 is able to feature a light and durable magnesium alloy reinforced casing. This honeycomb structure provides increased rigidity without adding additional weight.
Another cool feature of the Portégé R700 is its new Airflow Cooling Technology. Co-developed by Intel and Toshiba, this technology uses powerful jets of fresh air to cool the heat-generating components. In doing so, the Airflow Cooling Technology enables Toshiba to offer very powerful processors with the Portégé R700 such as the Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors.
Toshiba Introduces the Thinnest & Lightest 13-Inch Full-Performance Ultraportable 'Portégé R700'
25th Anniversary Edition Portégé R700 Includes
World's First Honeycomb Structure and Fresh Air Cooling Technology in a Laptop
Singapore (Vocus) July 13, 2010 – Toshiba's Singapore Computer Systems Division (CSD), a division of Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd, today announced the Portégé R700, the thinnest and lightest 13-inch full-performance ultraportable. The Portégé R700 provides both consumers and business professionals with unprecedented performance in a highly mobile form factor at mainstream prices.
Previously, most ultraportable required low-voltage and lower powered processors to keep the system cool. At less than 19mm and starting from 1.39kg*, the Portégé R700 is capable of supporting a range of full-powered processors as a result of an innovative new cooling technology. Similar to cooling technology found in jet engines, the new Airflow Cooling Technology, co-developed by Intel® and Toshiba, uses powerful jets of fresh air to cool the heat-generating components, allowing the Portégé R700 to be configured with more powerful full-voltage processors, including the Intel® Core™ i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors within its slim casing. Now, users can get the performance and longer battery life they need to stay productive on the go with lower power consumption.
The Portégé R700 also features a light, yet durable magnesium alloy casing reinforced with a new Honeycomb Structure incorporated beneath the palm rests and base of the laptop. Much like the honeycomb structure inside carbon fiber components of a Formula 1™ racer, this structural enhancement to the laptop provides drastically increased rigidity without adding additional weight. "Portégé ultraportable are not only a demonstration of Toshiba's superior engineering and craftsmanship, but our ability to innovate to meet the demands of businesses," said Wong Lih Jia, General Manager, Toshiba's Computer Systems Division. "The Portégé R700 delivers the no-compromise mobile experience businesses need, providing the performance, functionality and durability in an extremely lightweight form factor."
Travel light, work easily With an all-new sophisticated design that will turn heads in the boardroom, the Portégé R700 features a 13.3-inch widescreen LCD display, a premium raised tile keyboard and a wide TouchPad with customizable Multi-touch Control that makes typing and navigation easy and comfortable. Thanks to the integration of the latest Intel® standard voltage Core processors and the availability of an optical disc drive, the slim and light ultraportable is equipped to run even the most-demanding multimedia applications, enables business users to travel light without compromising on performance.
Equipped with Windows® 7 Operating System, the system includes a wealth of features and ports required by users, including a choice of spacious 500GB hard drive or 512GB Solid State Drive, 4GB of ultra-fast DDR3 RAM, as well as a broad range of connectivity options and a docking station connector for an optional docking station that supports HDMI and USB 3.0 for fast data transfer. The Portégé R700 doesn't compromise on battery life - it can run for an entire working day of up to eight hours on one battery charge. An additional slice battery that can remain on when docked will increase the battery life rating up to 12 hours.
The new model offers even more useful features to enhance its portability and appeal for business people with the incorporation of Toshiba's EasyGuard® Technology. These hardware and software enhancements help protect the ultraportable from jolts, spills and theft, with added protection around system components, a 3D sensor for hard disk protection against drops and shocks, spill-resistant keyboard, integrated Trusted Platform Module, fingerprint sensor as well as a host of software that continuously checks the performance and functionality of the system's critical hardware components and alerts users when the system is in need of a tune-up.
Move in Style – Designed for consumers Toshiba also introduces the Portégé R700 for the consumers market which differs from business models in a few ways to better suit consumer users. Since docking is not typically required in private usage, this connector is omitted. The consumer version Portégé R700 also comes equipped with Windows® 7 Premium Edition and a Clear SuperView display is fitted as standard.
EPEAT Gold-rated Eco-conscious Design The laptops are designed to be environmentally conscious with power-efficient, mercury-free LED backlit displays and meet the rigorous requirements of the EnergyStar® 5.0 standard and achieved industry-leading Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT®) Gold status. They are also RoHS compatible, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and certain other hazardous substances.
