Intel Sampling 45nm Core Microprocessors

There's some news out of Reutrers today that states Intel is already sampling 45nm Core Microarcitecture-based processors. Although not stated in the article, the 45nm core being sampled, codenamed "Penryn", is likely to incorporate more L2 cache than current Core 2 Duo processors, and will also have support for SSE4. Other details are sure to trickle out as we get closer to launch.

"The sample processors, known as the Penryn family within Intel, are being made at a factory in Oregon, and the company is on track to begin selling the chips in the second half of 2007, said Mark Bohr, director of process architecture and integration at Intel."
