In another sign that the online competition between Amazon and Walmart is heating up, Walmart took Amazon to task on its blog today for its upcoming sale. Amazon has been heavily promoting what it calls Prime Day (July 15th), which will feature loads of sales available only to Amazon Prime members. In a tongue-in-cheek spoof of Amazon’s Prime Day ad, Walmart points out that it doesn’t charge customers a fee for access to its prices. But Walmart is going a step further by launching what it calls “atomic deals” this week.  “We’ve heard some retailers are charging $100 to get access... Read more...
Penny pinching T-Mobile subscribers can now score Microsoft's entry-level Lumia 435 smartphone for less than $50 ($49.88 to be exact) from Walmart. That's about half the price it was selling for when it first turned up in the U.S. about three months ago for $95, and it's an off-contract price -- no subsidized shenanigans or accompanying long-term contract. For that price, you might as well add Wally World's 2-year care plan, a $9 add-on that covers your phone from accidental damage and normal wear and tear. What's more, coverage includes a free replacement with no deductible, a relatively rare combination... Read more...
Amazon has been virtually untouchable in the online shopping space and a big reason for that is Amazon Prime, a $99 per year membership offering free two-day shipping on millions of qualifying items. Looking to challenge the online behemoth is Walmart, the mega-chain that dominates offline shopping. In an attempt to give Amazon a run for its money on its home turf, Walmart will reportedly test a new unlimited online shipping service later this summer.According to Reuters, the pilot program will cost subscribers $50 per year in exchange for free shipping on select products found on Walmart's website.... If you're going to release a new product in a competitive market, it's best to make sure it either beats all of the others on features, or price. Walmart has decided to take the latter route with its VUDU Spark TV stick, pricing it at a mere $24.95. That's ten bucks cheaper than the Google Chromecast, and about fourteen less than Amazon's Fire TV Stick. It gets even more tempting: for the first five months, $5 will be credited to the account each month. That means that the device effectively pays for itself after five months, something that's bound to catch the attention of many a Walmart... Read more...
Up to this point, T-Mobile's been the one shaking up the wireless industry with its "Un-carrier" initiatives that go against the grain. However, credit Virgin Mobile for being the first to launch no-contract data sharing plans in the U.S., though there's a small caveat -- they're exclusively available at Walmart locations. If you don't mind a trip to Wally World, then beginning tomorrow (January 17), you can access the new plans on four specific 4G LTE smartphones that come pre-loaded with the Virgin Mobile data sharing application. In addition, each multi-line... Read more...
If you’ve been eying Apple’s iPhone 6 and haven’t yet taken the plunge, Wal-Mart is offering a holiday promotion that might prompt you to get off your lazy butt. The retail giant normally sells the iPhone 6 for $179 with a new two-year contract, which already represents a $20 savings over what you’d pay direct from Apple. However, starting tomorrow, Wal-Mart will discount the entry-level iPhone 6 even further to just $129 with a new, two-year contract. Likewise, the supersized iPhone 6 Plus has seen its price of entry cut from the usual $279 to $229. The price cuts extend to all members of the... Read more...
Back on November 13, Wal-Mart announced that it would price match select online retailers which included Amazon.com. However, consumers took advantage of this and were recently able to scam Wal-Mart into price matching Sony’s $400 PlayStation 4 for only $90. Proof of the fraud was noticed by CNBC as photos of receipts were posted on Twitter and Reddit by consumers who were able to get Wal-Mart to match the price of third-party sellers on Amazon by tricking the employees into thinking it was an authentic-looking Amazon page. The problem is, any Amazon member that has a registered selling account... Read more...
One of the few places you can go to pick up motor oil, baby diapers, shotguns, and fresh fruit in a single trip is Walmart. It's also where you'll find a bunch of Black Friday deals, provided you're willing to fight the unruly crowd. If so, here's a heads up that E FUN's newest Windows tablet, the 8-inch Nextbook, is headed to Wally World's brick and mortar locations on Black Friday for just $99. The device itself comes with 16GB of internal storage, though if you take advantage of the Black Friday promotion, you'll also receive a 16GB microSD card in the box, essentially doubling the device's... The situation is heating up between Apple and retailers who are part of the Merchant Customer Exchange,a group that is developing its own mobile payment system called CurrentC. One of MCX’s primary members is Wal-Mart, which has said that it has no plans to support Apple Pay at its stores. “There are certainly a lot of compelling technologies being developed, which is great for the mobile-commerce industry as a whole,” said a Wal-Mart spokesperson to Business Insider. “Ultimately, what matters is that consumers have a payment option that is widely accepted, secure,... If you're looking to score the best deal on an iPhone, typically the best time to pounce is right before Apple launches a new model. When that time of year comes around, retailers inevitably slash prices on current generation models to make room for the new handsets, as Walmart is about to do with its stockpile of iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S handsets. The folks at CNET have it on good authority (a Walmart spokesperson) that Walmart's planning to reduce the price of the iPhone 5C from $29 to just $0.97 effective Thursday at 9 AM local time. Walmart is also planning to cut the price of its remaining... Read more...
Hey, you there. The one holding the iPhone 5S. We see you getting ready to pay full price, but that's a sucker's game. Put the iPhone down and slowly walk away. Now head to your car and race over to Walmart (obeying all traffic laws on the way, of course) and shop the same exact model you were just holding, only now you'll pay less for it. According to USA Today, Wally World has decided to slash the price of its iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models. The new price of the iPhone 5s is $99, down from $149, while the iPhone 5c has been reduced to just $29, down from $49. These prices requires a two-year... Read more...
Without getting into a long-winded debate about the hardware and platform differences between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the main advantage Sony's console has over Microsoft's is that it's a $100 less expensive at $399 versus $499. Of course, the Xbox One comes with a second generation Kinect motion controller, so while the price difference isn't an arbitrary one, it's a forced purchase since you can't buy the console sans Kinect. That said, a temporary price drop just took away the PS4's cost advantage, at least in part. At present, both Best Buy and Walmart are selling the Xbox One on sale... Read more...
Microsoft nearly flipped the used games market upside down when it first began revealing details about its Xbox One console prior to launch, though in the end, the Redmond outfit listened to its customers and reversed course. As a result, not only is the used games market still thriving, it's expanding and drawing interest from new players, such as Walmart. Beginning March 26 (a week from today), you'll be able to bring your used games to Wally World and receive a credit that can be applied to anything sold at the store or Sam's Club. You can also use your credit for online purchases at either... Read more...
