MSI Readies $800 Ultrabook Slider for Fourth Quarter Release

One of the products MSI was busy showing off at Computex earlier this month was the company's upcoming Slider S20, which is an 11.6-inch Ultrabook with a slide-out physical keyboard that doubles as a stand. MSI disclosed only a handful of details, saying it would pack an new generation Intel Chief River CULV platform processor, Windows 8, and an assortment of peripherals and I/O ports, including USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, and HDMI. But what MSI didn't disclose is a price or a release date.

Now it appears MSI is targeting a fourth quarter release, likely October or November, in which the Silder S20 will retail for $799 to $899. If so, that would give MSI a jump on the ever-popular holiday shopping season, and provide early Windows 8 tablet/notebook adopters an alternative to Microsoft's Surface, which will reportedly launch around the same time starting at no less than $600.

It's important to note that MSI hasn't revealed a full spec sheet yet, but even so, it remains to be seen if the upcoming crop of Windows 8 tablets and hybrids can command the kind of price points currently being tipped.
