Every Motorist Should See This Video of a Car Crash Caused by Texting While Driving

Anyone who has ever tried texting and driving at the same time should take note of a video released by police in Fort Meyers, Florida. The short video clip, which was taken from a police cruiser, shows a car veering off the side of the road and narrowly missing a telephone pole before ramming into a tree and flipping over.

According to ABC News, the driver wasn't seriously hurt, and fortunately it appears there were no pedestrians or other motorists involved in the crash. The driver was texting while driving, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and ultimately end up starring in a warning video. Here's a look:

There have been several studies on distracted driving since the rise of mobile phones. One recent study suggests that U.S. motorists are the worst offenders of texting while driving, though it's not just teens that peck away at their phone's keyboards while behind the wheel. In a survey conducted by AT&T, nearly half of all adults admitted to texting and driving at the same time.

In an effort to curb distracted driving, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced last September the creation of special "Texting Zones" where motorists can pull off the road and safely respond to text messages.
