ATI RV570 Preview

DailyTech has managed to get their hands on a preliminary sample of ATI's upcoming mainstream RV570 GPU and has posted some early performance results for your viewing pleasure. Based on a 80u process, this new GPU features 36 Pixel Shaders and 12 pipelines and is said to run with a core frequency of 580MHz and memory running at 700MHz. Equipped with 256MB of memory, the card also boasts an internal Crossfire connector allowing for multiple GPU configurations without needing an external adaptor. With a rough pricepoint hovering between $199 and $250, the new ATI GPU will be doing battle with NVIDIA's GeForce 7900 GS. Judging from the initial performance results, it appears as though ATI will have a strong product once they finally manage to get this GPU out the doors.

ATI's upcoming Radeon X1950 Pro looks quite promising considering the lower power consumption and near Radeon X1900XT 256MB levels of performance. The use of a single-slot cooler also makes the Radeon X1950 Pro more attractive for users with limited slot expansion capabilities. There's also the internal CrossFire connector that allows future upgrade to CrossFire slightly easier and less wasteful since it only needs another Radeon X1950 Pro instead of hunting down a Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition.
