AMD this afternoon kicked off is first Financial Analyst Day in three years. During the hiatus, AMD has had a change of leadership (former CEO Rory Reed parted ways and was replaced by Dr. Lisa Su) and the company has seen its market share erode in the processor and GPU markets — the downturn in the PC market has been especially tough for AMD. On the x86 side, AMD is pushing forward with the 2016 launch of processors based on its new Zen core. We briefly touched on Zen last week when slides leaked to the Internet, but AMD’s Mark Papermaster was on hand to give us some more juicy details on what... Read more...
Holy 14nm, Batman! If the slides that have been appearing online are real, it looks like AMD will soon announce a new lineup of CPUs based on 14nm technology. The leaked roadmap slides appear to show AMD’s plans for both mobile and desktop processors in 2016.On the mobility side of things, AMD appears to have three new 14nm SoCs planned: Bristol Ridge, Basilisk, and Styx. The Bristol Ridge line will feature as many as four Zen CPU cores and will be the go-to for mainstream/performance devices. Basilisk and Styx, on the other hand, will be low- and ultra-low power units, respectively. Styx will... Read more...

It's a good time to be in the market for a portable media player. From Apple's iPod lineup (the obvious choice) to Microsoft's Zune HD to Archos' range of media-centric players, you've got options galore. But just in case you still weren't confused enough as to which device was right for you, Creative has just added another to the mix. The company once famous for its expansive range of audio cards has begun to dabble in the wide world of PMPs, and while it's newest product is no iPod touch, it may just be enough for you. The ZEN X-Fi2, as it's known, is a touch screen-based player, and on paper,... Read more...
Creative used to be a huge, huge name in the audio world. If we're being generous, it still has a rather large presence in the audio landscape, but it's not nearly the beast it once was. By and large, integrated audio solutions have grown sophisticated enough to be satisfactory for most, and few are springing for dedicated sound boards the way they used to. With that, Creative has had to dip its toes into other markets in an effort to make up for lost ground, and while its efforts in the digital audio player market have largely failed (thanks to the iPod, of course), this effort may be one worth...
