We have been hearing a lot from AMD over the last few months regarding the slew of new processors and Fusion APUs slated to arrive next year. With all of the news regarding Zacate, Ontario, Bobcat, Bulldozer, and Llano, et al, that has hit recently, you’d think work on the current generation of products had ceased, but that is not the case. Just in time for the holidays, AMD is refreshing it’s line-up of desktop six-core processor offerings with a brand new flagship CPU, dubbed the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition. As you can surmise from its name, the 1100T is clocked higher than the... Read more...
Just in time for the holidays, AMD is refreshing it’s line-up of desktop six-core processor offerings with a brand new flagship CPU, dubbed the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition. As you can surmise from its name, the 1100T is clocked higher than the 1090T it will be supplanting at the top of AMD’s line-up and its “Black Edition” moniker denotes an unlocked chip for more flexible overclocking. We been playing with one of AMD’s new Phenom II X5 1100T Black Edition processors for a little while now and have a full performance profile laid out on the pages ahead... AMD... Read more...
Let the battle for six-core supremacy begin. Up until now, Intel's ultra expensive Core i7 980X has been the only consumer-level six-core chip on the planet, but that all changes today now that a handful of online vendors have begun listing AMD's Phenom II X6 processor line. Provantage, for example, has started taking orders for AMD's Phenom II X6 1090T processor. This six-core chip races along at 3.2GHz and comes equipped with 9MB of L3 cache. You penny pinchers will be happy to know that it doesn't demand anywhere near the same pricing premium as Intel's 980X, and is instead listed at a much... Read more...
Nokia hasn't really kept up with Apple and HTC in terms of smartphone innovation, but it looks like the X6 is making up for lost time. The original X6 came in a 32GB form and couldn't be purchased without Nokia's own music subscription service "Comes With Music." The new X6 is a 16GB version that doesn't require you to purchase the Comes With Music addition, which means that this version is a far more viable option for those who already have a favorite means of procuring audio. The phone has room for over 5000 tracks, a 3.2" capacitive touch panel, four new finishes (black, white, white/pink and... This has to be the most screwed-up Service Pack release we've ever seen, and we've seen plenty of them. While Microsoft said SP1 has been released to manufacturing, it also said SP1 wouldn't be sent to end users for six weeks. And it even pulled one of the prerequisite updates yesterday after issues with it. Yet today end users with 64-bit Vista installs are seeing SP1 in Windows Update. Not a whole lot to say here, but if you're running Vista on an x64-based system, you've probably already noticed a little surprise courtesy of Windows Update, which today started pushing out the x64 edition of Vista... What goes faster than a Core 2 Quad processor at 3GHz?  Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your perspective, nothing from AMD at the moment.  Thankfully Intel has a few more "MHz in the can", or so to speak.  Actually, it appears they may have a lot more, as you'll see in the pages that follow.  Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves though.  First, Intel had to lay the platform foundation to support higher performance.  After all, a faster engine is no good to you, sitting idle. The introduction of the Intel P35 "Bearlake" chipset and soon-to-be-released X38 chipset... Read more...
Hello All.  I ntel’s has just launched their latest flagship desktop processor, the Core 2 Extreme QX6850, and we’ve got it on the test-bench at here HotHardware.com.  Here’s a snip: “It took a small voltage bump to 1.45V in the BIOS to hit 3.73GHz.  To achieve this, we raised the FSB to 466MHz and dropped the multiplier to X8.  Once we hit our highest, stable clock speed, we were surprised how stable things were even with a relatively low cost standard HSF cooler.  We used an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 cooler to achieve these results.”... Hello Everyone! Hot on the heels of the holiday weekend, Intel is launching a new flagship quad-core processor, the Core 2 Extreme QX6800. As its name implies, the new Core 2 Extreme QX6800 has frequency parity with its dual-core counterpart, the Core 2 Extreme X6800 - sans the "Q". At 2.93GHz this makes the Core 2 Extreme QX6800 Intel's highest clocked quad-core desktop processor to date. Click the link below and check it out... Read The Article Right Here!... Read more...
Hot on the heals of the holiday weekend, Intel is launching a new flagship quad-core processor targeted at hardcore power users and PC enthusiasts. Other than its higher frequency though, the Core 2 Extreme QX6800 doesn't differ from Intel's previous high-end quad-core processor, the 2.66GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6700, in any way. But what... Hello All. Here we are, less than 4 months after the release of their excellent Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors, and Intel is ready with a new animal -- a quad-core processor dubbed the Core 2 Extreme QX6700. We've taken the new QX6700 and put it through the wringer with a barrage of multi-threaded tests. Here's a quote from the piece... "Today Intel is officially launching a new Quad-Core processor, formerly known by the company's internal code name, "Kentsfield". Kentsfield is the direct result of Intel's immense manufacturing and process technology prowess. Based on the company's... Read more...
To say this year has been a bit of a whirl-wind adventure would be an immense understatement.  We've seen Intel move from a back-seat position versus the Athlon 64 X2 with their Pentium D architecture, to commanding virtually all of the lime-light as of late with Core 2 Duo, not to mention running away with nearly all of the performance benchmark wins. If 2006 was the year of the dual-core CPU, then Intel left its mark deep in PC processor history as probably the biggest come-back story the industry has ever seen.  Core 2 Duo's steep volume ramp in the market was also...
