Colored game consoles have been around for years now. It didn't take long for companies to realize that consumers would go crazy over a simple "limited run" of colored consoles, and even as far back as the famed black DreamCast, this tactic has shown to work well. For whatever reason, consumers love color choices. Maybe it fits their mood or their style, or maybe it just helps to fit in with their decorations. Either way, Sony has never been one to shy away from colors, and even today there are quite a few PSP color options around the world. The company's past PlayStation 2 console has also shipped... It's a blessing and a curse, being Apple. Sure, everyone pays attention when you launch a new product, but that also means that those same people will nitpick to death if anything during the launch isn't executed perfectly. Apple has been dealing with quite a bit of criticism over the past 24 hours, though we highly doubt any complaints about reception will hinder their ability to sell through their initial stock. But here's something that might: Apple's white iPhone 4 isn't available for sale, and it won't be for quite some time. Many consumers pre-ordered this phone through Best Buy or other... Read more...
Sprint's launch of the HTC EVO 4G has led to a huge increase in attention for WiMAX as a whole. It's America's first 4G phone, and it also happens to be one of the most impressive Android devices to date. With its massive display, 3G/4G support, powerful CPU and Sense overlay, it's been an easy choice to pick up for those living in 4G areas and not bothered by the $10/month surcharge for accessing WiMAX. But if there could be one complaint, it would be that the EVO 4G was only available in a single color. That's right: just black. But now, Best Buy is giving the world another option with a white... When you mention "OLED" and "portable media player" in the same sentence, one of two devices probably come to mind. Sony's OLED Walkman, or more recently, Microsoft's forthcoming Zune HD. But really, there's a media player that's been touting an OLED panel longer than either of those two, and it goes by the name S9. Cowon's quiet yet powerful entrant into the touchscreen media player realm has remained largely under wraps here in America thanks to a dearth of marketing, but there's at least a fighting chance that it'll gain a bit more popularity now that a striking white version has surfaced. Over... Read more...
In a unanimous 5-0 decision, the FCC late Tuesday approved public access to the "white spaces" of the wireless spectrum. "White space" in telecommunications refers to unused frequencies in the radio waves portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, and the FCC's decision followed months of lobbying by Google, Microsoft, and other Wireless Innovation Alliance (WIA) members for the measure and by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) against it. The NAB has stated that using "white space" will cause interference with wireless devices of many types, such as wireless microphones and the like.We ... Read more...

When it comes to mobile computing, a major detractor for many enthusiasts is their limited ability to upgrade components.  Typically, the hard drive and memory are readily accessible in most notebooks, but when it comes to graphics and other components, often times you are locked into the manufacturer's factory configuration or have to jump through hoops just to gain access to certain parts, let alone upgrade them.  This can be a major strike against mobile computing, as many users prefer the upgrade potential of a desktop PC, knowing that their investment can be easily updated in the... One thing hardware enthusiasts love is customizability. We want our computers to be different, to stand out from the crowd of boring OEM boxes, and to be personal. We love customizing our computers so much that many of us spend days, weeks, months and even years customizing and polishing our own rigs. Hardware manufacturers have not been blind to this phenomenon and they have since turned our desires into big business. All of this is possible thanks to industry standardization of just about every component found in a Desktop PC. Extensive standardization has made it possible to take the latest... Read more...
