If you're interested in turning your computer into a HDTV and DVR, then Elgato's new EyeTV One may be something you're interested in. This digital TV tuner connects to your TV antenna and delivers over-the-air TV broadcasts to your Mac or PC. Best of all, since these over-the-air broadcasts are free and offer excellent quality, you could finally nix the cable company's monthly bill for digital TV services once and for all (that is, assuming you're happy with the number of stations available over the air). For Mac users, EyeTV One comes with EyeTV 3 software that lets you watch, rewind, fast forward,... Read more...
Taking a break for dishing out new notebooks and netbooks, Asus is today unveiling its newest device for tuning into OTA broadcasts via an HTPC. The newest product in the My Cinema line packs an absurdly long name: My Cinema-EHD3-100/NQA/FM/AV/MCE RC Dual Hybrid TV Card. What that tries to explain in so many words is that it can record and tune into both both digital (ATSC/QAM) and analog (NTSC) TV channels simultaneously without taking a CPU hit, which is definitely music to the media enthusiast's ear. The card, which fits into a PCI-Express slot, possesses an MPEG2 hardware encoder that takes... Read more...
Love TV? Love being on the road? Regardless of whether or not your answer to that second inquiry is "yes" or "no," Asus is looking to help avid travelers stay connected to their favorite over-the-air dramas with its all new Express TV Stick. This minuscule USB TV tuner enables notebooks and desktops alike to tune into any local OTA station (usually the ABCs, CBS, FOXs and CBSs of the world) and use their computer's hard drive as a PVR. The USB 2.0 device installs itself automatically on PCs when inserted, and the "hybrid" nature enables it to tune into both NTSC (analog) and ATSC (digital) broadcasts... Read more...
Those of you who are thinking about adding an DTV tuner to your rigs will be interested in this review at HTPC News.  They evaluate the VBox Cat's Eye DTA-150 HDTV tuner and ended up linking it very much.  It's kind of a simple looking card, but it got the job done. "DTV is absolutely amazing the first time you lay eyes on it. In fact, it is shocking how much better it will look over standard definition broadcasts. Of course nothing in life is a cakewalk. Poor signal reception, driver problems and hardware compatibility... Read more...
