In the wake of AMD's architecture discussions at Hot Chips last month, eyes have increasingly turned towards the company's upcoming Bobcat processor. Now, AMD's director of Fusion marketing, John Taylor, has written a blog post with additional details on the diminutive chip, including several photos. Back in November of last year, when AMD announced it had formally settled with Intel over the smaller company's antitrust lawsuit, CEO Dirk Meyer predicted that we'd see more AMD laptops as a result. Nine months later, Dirk seems to have been right. We won't know for certain until we see AMD's Q2 results in a few weeks, but there certainly seems to be more OEM interest in the company's products than we've seen in years past. Hot on the heals of this morning's announcement from AMD, HardwareZone has posted a performance preview is the new Turion 64 X2 processor. It seems the gang at HardwareZone got their hands on a pre-release MSI notebook that featured AMD new mobile CPU.  Seemed like a decent performer... DigiTimes reports that motherboard vendors have confirmed a May 17 launch date for AMD's Turion64 X2 and Socket AM2 products. This is in contrast to previous reports where AMD would be delaying the launch due to a lack of sufficient volume. With a number of new mobile designs wins for AMD and their Turion64 processor, it will be interesting to see how many more will use this upcoming dual-core version. DigiTimes reports that AMD is delaying the launch of their Turion 64 X2 mobile processor by roughly a month. Fortunately, the delay does not seem to be hardware related and is instead credited to Microsoft's latest delay with its upcoming Vista operating system. With Intel's Santa Rosa platform on the horizon, the Turion 64 X2 processor will certainly be critical to AMD's chances of gathering market share in the mobile segment. DigiTimes reports that AMD's upcoming new Turion 64 X2 mobile CPU's are expected to cause a price-war in the notebook market. With Turion 64 X2 based notebooks from the likes of ASUS, HP, and Acer coming to market in May, we are bound to see one of the first true threats to Intel's Centrino platform.
