Dell's Studio line has always been about both form and function, and now an even greater emphasis is being placed on the aesthetic design. In a joint collaboration with Threadless, Dell is sprucing up its Studio laptop line with "11 inspired designs," each one created and submitted by members of the Threadless community. "The Threadless community creates unique, critically-acclaimed original designs. By teaming with Threadless and offering exclusive designs through Design Studio, we enable students and families an exciting way to differentiate their Dell Mini or Studio laptop PCs," said Rachna... Dell recently sent us one of their new Studio XPS 7100 desktops built around AMD's recently launched Phenom II X6 1055T processor. AMD's hexa-core chips don't pack the same punch as Intel's six-core architecture, but the upshot is you'll save a king's bounty by riding into the sunset with AMD, and in this case, with Dell as well. The configuration we're looking at runs $1,450 (currently on sale for $1,150), with lesser spec'd six-core rigs starting out at $699. To put that into perspective, Intel's sole six-core offering -- the Core i7 980X -- commands about a grand just for the processor alone...... Read more...
PC gamers are a lucky bunch, particularly those who have only recently begun their journey into the awesome world of computers. Never before has this hobby been so affordable, and there was a time not that long ago when building a cheap gaming rig resulted in a second-rate gaming experience, one devoid of copious amounts of eye candy and buttery smooth frame rates, unless you were willing to crank down the screen resolution until the picture had more blocks than the NES version of Super Mario Bros. Well folks, that isn't the case anymore. Sure, you can still shell out several grand on a decadent... Read more...
It's hard to say where it started. Maybe it was the XPS line. Maybe it was the Adamo range. Or maybe it was Dell's Design Studio. Whatever the origin, there's no denying that the Dell of today is far more fashion-forward than the Dell that sold those patended "beige boxes" of yesteryear. This past week, Dell introduced its most vivacious family yet, and just as any family these days, the offerings are about as varied as you could possibly imagine. Here shortly, Dell will offer 26 new hues on its notebook lineup, all high-style OPI fashion shades that'll be available in the Dell Design Studio. Starting... Read more...

This year's Intel Developer Forum (or IDF, for short) is really turning into a wild one. Yesterday we saw Intel showcase 22mn chips and introduce the Atom Dev Program, and today its new Clarksfield processor is getting official and placed into a trifecta of Dell machines and one Alienware rig. The flagship product to carry the new mobile Core i7 will be the Alienware M15x, which now boasts a slightly refined chassis and plenty of horsepower for those with enough dough. The Studio 15 and Studio 17, Dell's multimedia-friendly 15" and 17" options, are both being gently refreshed with mobile Core i7... With the introduction of every major CPU release from AMD or Intel comes the inevitable flood of new and updated machines tweaked to take advantage. Both rigs... Read more...
Dell's Studio line is a hit. It's a drastic departure from the plain, boring enclosures that the PC maker offered for so long, and it's obviously picking up traction in the market. Hot on the heels of its ultra-small Studio XPS 13, the all new Studio 14z is aimed at the tech-savvy student and the multimedia lover alike, and just about anyone in between. Packing a spacious 500GB hard drive option and a shell that looks like a mix of a Mini 9 and Studio XPS 16, this new notebook aims to fill a noticeable void in the outfit's Studio line. As the name implies, the machine includes a 14" LED display... Read more...
Dell's Studio line of products is a breath of fresh air to everyone who remembers the company's tendency toward "beige boxes" from days gone by. The hip, modern look embodied by the Studio moniker has rubbed off on the new Studio XPS 13, a tight-fitting ultraportable notebook with loads of style and plenty of power to go around, including a hybrid SLI graphics engine.  Without question, Dell has gone its own way with the Studio XPS 13. It's not trying to compete with the MacBook Airs and MSI X-Slim X340s of the world; instead, it's hoping to spark another trend and lead the way… Typically,... Read more...
For the longest while, Dell seemed perfectly content to continue producing notebooks with a minimalist design. Sure, they were perfectly up to snuff internally, but externally they lacked the more agressive lines and personality captured in some of the high-fashion machines from the likes of Alienware, HP and a few other boutique notebook makers. And then, the Studio line was born. As we saw last fall with the company's Studio Hybrid small form factor desktop, Dell's Studio line of products is a breath of fresh air to anyone who remembers the company's tendency toward "beige... Two perpetually, almost fad-like and recurring themes for computing technology in 2008 are low power, environmentally friendly products as well as tiny, small form-factor or ultra-portable machines. Power consumption and size -- it has become undeniably hip and cool to offer products that cater to the new carbon footprint and mechanical footprint-minded consumer. If you didn't know better, it almost seems like the introduction of Asus' Eee PC started the craze back in Q4 of '07 but clearly, at least small form-factor system have been around for many years. Some of you will remember Shuttle's line... Read more...

Synopsis:  With an Intel Core 2 Duo low power dual-core processor under its hood, this machine is capable in many mainstream user applications and could make for a decent Home Theater PC.  Aficionados may scoff at the system's integrated Intel X3100 graphics, which does not provide full offload processing for HD video.  However, the Studio Hybrid has more than enough power to playback full 1080p resolution content with its Core 2 Duo dual core processor, standard 160GB hard drive and DDR2-667 system memory.  As a minimalistic business-class...
