Luxury audio has always demanded a hefty price premium, and Harman Kardon has consistently been a major audio player in the upper-end of the conventional mid-range. For the average consumer H/K equipment is rather expensive, but there's obviously far more expensive gear out there if you go searching. At any rate, the company's new MAS 102 mini stereo system is easily one of the pricier options we've seen, but it's also extremely classy and highly styled. Those familiar with the brand will probably recognize the motif right away. It's a tapletop system with two stereo speakers a 2x65-watt amplifier,... Read more...
Who says retro went out of style years ago? Retro is most definitely in, particularly when one does it as classy as Onkyo does. The company has just revealed a new line of separate Hi-Fi components at CES, and they're all about as beautiful as they come. Home cinema equipment is generally seen as boring in terms of design; almost every single box looks like the other. But these are a sight to behold. All three models, the P-3000R pre-amplifier, M-5000R power amplifier, and C-7000R CD player, incorporate Onkyo’s new Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) to counteract... All of the controls are built in to the 0.7 ounce unit. The CLIPPER can connect... Read more...
To say that the iPod has revolutionized the stereo world would be understating things rather dramatically. Take Yamaha's MCR-410 for instance, which is a new micro stereo system that not only features a dock connecting port on the top, but also has the capability to connect with an iPod without cords. For all the things that the iPod is, it's not really a player to think of when you want a wireless solution. Yamaha's using its own proprietary yAired technology to change that, and the solution looks pretty darn elegant. The MCR-410 looks somewhat vintage in its styling, but it's actually fairly... These days, it's hard to find a new vehicle on the showroom floor without iPod support. Even lower-end automobiles are opting to add USB sockets in order to support Apple's iPhone and/or iPod, and one look at the company's latest earnings report will help you understand why. But what if you opted not to trade in your clunker last month? If you're still wheeling around with a cassette deck, it's probably time to get with the program. Parrot's new RKi8400 is here to help, bringing an iPhone/iPod-centric head unit to single-DIN radio openings that are commonly found in late model vehicles. The fully... Read more...
