An over-the-air update is bringing NVIDIA's Shield TV a trove of new functionality this week. The Android-based gaming set top box will now feature 4K video support and 4K picture sharing, as well as better streaming support for Google Play and Netflix. The update from NVIDIA follows a Google Android TV update that improved searching for TV apps. NVIDIA’s update also includes KODI 15 Beta 2, which has several features optimized for the NVIDIA Shield. Chief among those is 4K video support.  Shield users now have access to several new TV apps, including CBS News and Sports, as well... Read more...
NVIDIA's SHIELD Android TV device has been available for a couple of weeks now, but only in the regular 16GB version. Now, NVIDIA has announced that it's begun shipping the "Pro" model, which in addition to including a 500GB hard drive, bundles in a free copy of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It might be worth noting that this game is an Android native title, so no streaming will be required. If that bundle somehow doesn't entice you, NVIDIA has even more up its sleeves. Anyone who purchases either of the SHIELD models will receive $30 credit for the Google Play store as well as a free three-month... Read more...

Over the past few months, we’ve covered a number of details related to today’s launch of the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV device. It was back in March during GDC that we were first able to show you the Tegra X1 powered SHIELD Android TV (then refered to as the SHIELD Console). And it was earlier in the year at CES when NVIDIA unveiled the Tegra X1 SoC itself, along with a number of X1-based automotive products. To recap a bit, the Tegra X1 features a Maxwell-derived GPU and eight CPU cores; four ARM A57 cores and four A53s. The A57 cores are 64-bit, out-of-order designs with multi-issue pipelines,... Taking good advantage of the ongoing Google I/O conference, NVIDIA has just released what's undoubtedly one of the world's fastest Android devices: SHIELD. This peculiarly-named device might take over the name of the original portable SHIELD hand-held, but it's a much different device. SHIELD is a set-top device that NVIDIA aims to be better than all of the others. And we'd hope so, because the $199 price tag for the regular model will demand that this is a premium product, at least compared to simple media streamers. Yes, "regular model", because there's also a Pro model, which tacks on an extra... Read more...
NVIDIA just wrapped up an event in San Francisco, where the Game Developers Conference (GDC) is currently underway. The company unveiled a new Android TV streamer, game console, and supercomputer as NVIDIA’s Jen Hsun Huang calls it, all wrapped up in a single, ultra-slim device—the new NVIDIA SHIELD. The NVIDIA SHIELD Console And Wireless SHIELD Controller   In the lead-up to tonight’s event, an invitation from NVIDIA’s CEO was sent out with the title “Made To Game”, claiming that the product that would be shown was “more than 5 years in the making” and that it would “redefine the future of... Given the overall success of its first SHIELD products, it's seemed obvious that NVIDIA would keep on trucking, and would soon infuse one of its products with some Tegra X1 lovin'. But just how soon? A lot sooner than I would have figured, if Fudzilla's reporting proves true. The site says that NVIDIA's planning to launch a brand-new SHIELD Tablet by the end of Q1. As NVIDIA's annual developer conference takes place in mid-March, it's estimated that it could launch there. That would strike me as a bit of an odd venue to release a gaming device, but if it does prove true, it'd surely mean that there... Read more...

Considering the fact that NVIDIA produces just a couple of its own mobile devices, it was pretty surprising last month when the company said that it'd be one of the first to roll-out the Android 'Lollipop' update to a tablet - the SHIELD Tablet, to be exact. And so it did, right on schedule. Marco gave us a run-down on the update right before its official release, and considered that while some performance degradation could be seen, the update overall was well worth it, and made the market's best 8-inch Android tablet even better. That's a statement I wholeheartedly agree with, although I'd extend... Read more...

With Android 5.0 'Lollipop' having officially released yesterday, the game is on to predict when the myriad of supported devices will actually receive their update. Word has it that Google's recent Nexus lineup (4, 5, 7, and 10) will be one of the first to receive the OTA update, while select phones, like the Moto G, will receive it later this month. Not wanting to keep quiet in this party, NVIDIA has just announced its support of Lollipop as well, with note that its SHIELD Tablet will be treated to the update later this month. The above video is a quick one, so on the NVIDIA side, it seems that... Read more...
