The proliferation of NVIDIA's Ion GPU has been a long time coming. We've been talking about its merits for the better part of this year, but only recently has it been able to find its way into more than a handful of mainstream, shipping netbooks. We recently had a look at HP's Mini 311 with Windows 7 Home Premium, and while the Ion definitely enabled smooth HD playback where it was previously impossible with a paltry 1.6GHz Atom N270 and Intel IGP, the CPU bottleneck held back the entire system. Today, however, we're taking a look at a much more powerful system. Asus has come a long way since the... Read more...

It's hard to believe that the machine we'll be inspecting in the pages ahead is actually real and shipping. It's not so much a feat of engineering as it is a feat in product development. You see, we just wrapped up our evaluation of Asus' 1008HA Seashell three weeks ago, and already we're being treated to the second "Seashell" model to ship stateside. The 1005HA is undoubtedly a member of the expanding Eee PC lineup, and while it's numbered lower than the aforesaid 1008HA, there are actually a few aspects that we prefer on this model versus its predecessor. Actually, maybe predecessor... Read more...
Today, we're looking at the very first Asus Eee PC netbook that looks nothing at all like its predecessors. In fact, we'd wager that Asus included this machine in its Eee PC line simply because of the brand recognition.Although, Asus isn't content with labeling this only an Eee PC. The Eee PC 1008HA is the first member of the burgeoning "Seashell" line, a family that already includes this machine and the to-be-released 1005HA. The 1008HA was originally unveiled in March at the CeBIT conference in Germany, but the ultra-slim laptop has just now started filtering out to the US market.Asus Eee PC... Read more...
Anyone who has followed Asus' continually expanding Eee PC line will understand just how significant a diversion the product we'll be looking at in this showcase is for the company. Since the very beginning, Asus' pioneering netbooks designs have looked about like the Eee PC 1000HE that we reviewed back in February. Simple, if not boxy enclosures were a given, and while you may find a few curves or accents here or there, you could tell that style was not always in the foreground with these utilitarian, low-cost notebooks. Today, we're looking at the very first Eee PC netbook... Read more...
Just when you thought their goose was cooked and the bad guys won (whoever they are...), Asus busts a Bond-like move and shows cunning with stylish thinness.  What the heck are we talking about?  We have no idea.  Just watch the video... Asus has a pre-order page up now for the Eee PC 1008HA Seashell and if you like you can catch a bit more of the thrills and spills with our hero, Agent 003.14159...  He gets all the chicks with that fancy white netbook, no really, honest.... If you're in the market for a new ultraportable, you should definitely take a glance at Asus' newest offerings. Branching out from its basic Eee PCs and monsterous gaming rigs, the company has followed up its stylish U Series with the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA, a computer that's barely worthy of the Eee PC name. In fact, we'd say it could be sold on its own -- it's just a different breed of Eee entirely. The miniature notebook weighs in at 1.1kg (2.42 pounds) and includes a 10" display, ergonomically designed keyboard, intelligent energy management system and an intuitive multi-touch touchpad. The...
