Lenovo is targeting its ThinkPad 8 at business users, which makes sense. Everyone values portability and power, but it’s the business user who’s most likely to say “I need my tablet to be capable of doing everything that my main PC can do.” With a full 32-bit version of Windows 8.1 and a 1920 x 1200 display, the Lenovo ThinkPad 8 very nearly can... Intel’s Bay Trail Atom CPU powers the Lenovo ThinkPad 8. The Intel Z3770 quad-core Atom chip in the ThinkPad 8 runs at up to 2.39GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost. That’s a bit faster than the chip running Dell's Venue... Read more...
“You can never have too little screen real estate” is a tagline for no one, but big players like Dell, Toshiba, and now Lenovo are rushing to squeeze Windows 8.1 onto 8-inch tablets all the same. Huawei announced its first 10-inch quad-core tablet at Mobile World Congress back in February. When the tablet was announced, we learned it would be a 10-inch model with a 1920 x 1200 IPS high definition display, Android 4.0, and a Huawei 1.5GHz quad-core processor. Although those specs were enough to spark our interest, we still wanted to know more. Now, thanks to a newly released promotional video, you can get a glimpse at what this tablet is going to offer. The video shows off the tablet's metallic design that's 8.8mm thin as well as the 8MP auto-focus camera, 1080p theater-like experience with... Read more...
The iPhone 5 rumor mill is spinning up again after apparently taking a few weeks off due to heat exhaustion. The latest buzz coming out of Taiwan is that the device will feature a quad-core processor based on Samsung's Exynos platform. That would make the Exynos 4412 the most likely candidate for the device, and we've already seen an excellent phone built around that platform -- the Samsung Galaxy S III (although the US version we've looked at here is dual-core Qualcomm Krait). If the Galaxy SIII is a great phone (and it is), then why would we want to see a quad-core iPhone 5? Simple, we don't.... Read more...
You might say Intel has been absolutely killing it as of late.  Whether you consider their recent earnings announcement beating Wall Street's expectations, the Ultrabook craze, their re-entrance into the handset arena with their Medfield platform, or the proliferation of their 2nd generation Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor in the market; it's perfectly clear the company is in an execution groove that will fuel both their own growth as well as industry growth for some time to come. As if that weren't enough, the company is obviously champing at the bit for the launch of their 3rd generation... Read more...

MEIZU announced its new MEIZU MX Quad-core smartphone which claims to be the first smartphone in the world to use the brand new Exynos A9 quad-core processor. The MEIZU MX Quad-core will feature a 292 PPI high definition ASV display, 1700mAh battery, an 8 megapixel BSI camera with a lens aperture of f/2.2, and MEIZU's Flyme OS which is based on Android 4.0. The MX Quad-core smartphone is expected to be available in June in China and Hong Kong. Although there's a good chance we may never get our hands on this phone here in the States, it's cool to see what the "world's first" quad-core Exynos A9... Read more...
While speaking to CNET Asia, Stephen Sneeden, Product Marketing Manager for Sony Mobile, indicated his company may not release quad-core smartphones until early in 2013. While many mobile handset manufacturers have announced and shown off their latest quad-core handsets this week at Mobile World Congress, it appears Sony is holding off for better performance. Sneeden did qualify his remarks, saying they are only his assumption and that Sony will make official announcements when it is ready to do so. Sneeden also indicated that Sony is waiting to join the quad-core movement until the performance... Read more...
It can be a crowded field in the handset market, with the likes of Apple, Samsung, and others duking it out for the hearts, minds, and money of mobile users, but Huawei is looking to make a statement. The company announced the Ascend D Quad line of smartphones, which are quad-core phones designed to compete at the high end of the market. As is the case with most products being announced in Barcelona this week, detailed specs aren’t yet available, but PCWorld reports that the line will (for now) be comprised of the Ascend D Quad and Ascend D Quad XL. The phones will run on Huawei’s own... Read more...
Look, not everyone needs a sizable motherboard with eighteen PCI slots. And for those in that camp, there's VIA. The company has just launched he world's first quad core Mini-ITX boards featuring the latest VIA QuadCore E-Series processor. The VIA EPIA-M900 and VIA EPIA-M910 are the first two Mini-ITX boards to feature the 1.2GHz VIA QuadCore E-Series processor, offering enhanced multi-tasking and superb multimedia performance on the lowest quad core power budget for next generation embedded products. The VIA QuadCore E-Series processor features a highly optimized, energy efficient multi-core architecture,... Read more...
We're all familiar with the KISS principle, a favorite acronym among teachers who love to tell their students to "Keep It Simple, Silly" (or Stupid, depending on your professor). It's a lesson that wasn't lost on NVIDIA, which has decided to simply dub the unique architecture in its Tegra 3 processor as "4-Plus'1" instead of all the other names it had been using, including "variable symmetric multiprocessing" and calling the battery-saving fifth core a "companion core" or "ninja core." "Today, we’re officially calling it the 4-Plus-1 quad-core architecture and trademarking the name," NVIDIA... Read more...
At the Tech-Ed 2011 NZ event going on in New Zealand, Microsoft’s Jeff Johnson and Patrick Hevesi showed off what was reportedly a quad-core powered, Windows slate / tablet device. There seems to be no question that the device was in fact a quad-core tablet, but there are conflicting reports as to whether it was running Windows 7 or the upcoming, more tablet-friendly Windows 8. Current scuttlebutt seems to indicate that more details regarding this quad-core device will be revealed during the BUILD Windows Conference that will take place in Anaheim, CA September 13-16.... A few months back, NVIDIA demoed its upcoming quad-core SoC for future tablets and related mobile devices, dubbed Kal-El. At the time, NVIDIA claimed that Kal-El would deliver 5x the performance of current Tegra 2 solutions and ship with a 12-core GeForce GPU as well. And now, NVIDIA is showing off Kal-El again, but this time with an impressive graphics and physics demonstration that really shows off what the chip can do. “Given that dual-core processors are already on market, you might be wondering how Project Kal-El’s quad-core technology will improve the mobile experience. Rather... Read more...
VIA introduced its dual-core Nano just four months ago, but the company is already demonstrating that processor's big brother. The newly minted VIA QuadCore is--you guessed it--a quad-core processor that connects two dual-core Nano cores in an MCM (multi-chip module). The new chip won't actually ship for some months, but it may become a higher-performance alternative to both Atom and Brazos when it does... VIA Launches New Low Power QuadCore Nano CPU...
