October 6th may still be officially a day away, but that's not stopping AT&T from getting the party started early. What party, you ask? The Windows Mobile 6.5 party, of course. In a joint announcement made today with HTC, the Tilt 2 and PURE will be the carrier's first two WinMo 6.5 handsets, and both are pretty stout on paper. The PURE is a touchscreen-based phone, while the Tilt 2 relies on a tilting QWERTY slider approach. Both of the handsets support 3G browsing, HTC's own TouchFLO 3D interface and Windows Marketplace. There was an interesting article posted today at [H]ard|OCP that explains their experience with HD video playback on the PC using NVIDIA's soon to be released beta drivers that enable PureVideo HD functionality. Kyle asks NVIDIA some questions regarding the technology and talks about his experience playing back some protected content on the PC with various different configurations. Over the last couple of years, we've evaluated quite a number of socket 939 motherboards for AMD Athlon 64 processors. The vast majority of these motherboards were based on NVIDIA's very popular nForce 3/4 chipsets, although a smattering were based on chipsets from SiS or VIA as well. In November of last year though, ATI also chimed in with a reference board based on their Radeon Xpress 200 chipset. We've been hearing details about NVIDIA's on-chip programmable video processor ever since the NV40 originally launched about eight months ago. Back then NVIDIA had stated that the NV40's on-chip video processor incorporated a high-quality adaptive de-interlacing engine, along with better filtering and scaling techniques, video de-blocking logic and an integrated TV-encoder.
